Abortion: For.

Who am I to decide what's right or wrong for someone else to do, based on what? my own personal morality?

Death penalty: don't care

It seems that the entire criminal justice system is failing, so what does it matter?

Prayer in School: Against.

Learn in school, pray elsewhere

Sex Ed. For.

It can't hurt.

Homosexual Marriage: Who cares.

exactly.

Child Tax credits: For
Why not? I mean if you get whacked school tax on property you own if you have children or not, and an apartment rented who could have 9 kids gets charged none, why care about any taces, or tax breaks? I think we need a flat tax percentage, regardless of income bracket.

... and socialized medicine, while were at it.

Gun Control: Against

Control, no. Education, and safety training made manditory, yes. Enforce the laws we have.

Abortion: Depends.
If someone is raped, hell yes they should be allowed to abort... they didn't want the kid, and can you imagine what life for the kid would be like? "You were an accident son, you're only here become some bastard raped me." The kid would probably want to kill himself if he had to live with that anyway. But if the girl sleeps around recklessly, well, tough luck - she pay for her mistake and keep the kid.

Yeah good thinking, lets punish the girl and let her keep the baby, then she'll neglect it or even worse try to kill it before or after birth.
Think before you post stuff like this please, its shortsighted

Again, it depends on the situation of the girl... and also, there is this thing called putting the kid up for adoption... she could always do that. I didn't intend to make that second comment look shortsighted though, sorry.

whats the use, best enviroment for a child is with loving parents, how can you wish for a child to be born in an enviroment that doesn't even want it, thats even worse than just aborting the foetus, it saves suffering, time, tax money, did i mention suffering?

OK, you've made your point, I'm sorry I didn't think about what I said....

[Edit]I'm not a parent; I'm just a kid who has had a good family and is spoiled by it (not materialistically), and doesnt know what it's like to be in that situation, so I don't ever really think that much about it.

Abortion: For.
But not after a certain development stage is reached.

Death penalty: Against.
Against out of principle. A human dosn't loose all his rights couse he viloated the rights of others. And the possiblity for a legal ****up that kills an innocent is way to high.

Prayer in School: Against.

Sex Ed. For.

Homosexual Marriage: Why not?

Child Tax credits: ...
I have to few info on that. If it works like it does here it's OK with the exeption that familys beyond a certain income just don't need it and shoulden't get it.

Nice catch XeneX. I'd like to see what Lizard has to say about that.
And btw, canada has gun control and free press, and a much lower crime rate per capita than the US. It does work.

I hope abortion never gets outlawed. I find it quite funny to say that "prove to me when the baby becomes sentient, and i'll be ok with abortion up to that point".
Show me when the baby does become sentient. When does it? Before it comes out, it's a series of reflexes and geneticaly programed reactions. Does that imply sentience?
You live a very sheltered life if you can really mean what you said about rape victims. Let me tell you something. IT's the absolutely most traumatizing thing, a woman, let alone a couple and the family can go through.
A parallel to what you said is like saying someone got sick because he unknowingly traveled to a SARS infested city, with a travel advisory and tell him if he/she gets sick: You shoulda known better, deal with it.
Cause that's what you're telling the rape victim. Forget about the fact that you will abort a baby. Think about the vicitm's pain. That is so insensitive. Aborting the foetus won't stop the pain and make things normal again, but it many cases , it'll go a long way to starting the healing process.

Religion at school, not really.
The child tax thingy, well, i'm mixed on that one. Just cause i don't have a child, it doesn't mean i have life easier and don't need a tax cut.
Sex Ed, all the way.
Homosexual marriages: They can have harems for all i care.

Death penalty: Mixed. I'd have said no, but i have a friend who works at a juvenile detention center, and i have heard some shockingly horrific recounts of psycho teens who will walk as free men soon, despite their admissions of murder in completely uncaring ways.
One of them stands out in particular. My friend told me how this guy (16 yrs old) feels absolutely no remorse, and would kill you on a whim, should you rub him the wrong way. but you get no warning. He was let out a while back, and put a pencil in someone';s neck on the bus for no good reason (maybe the poor victim was in his way). The victim surived, but the teen stands no chance at rehabilitation. What do you do with him? Lock him up, and have my hard earned taxes pay for his meals for the rest of his life? Exile him? I don't want this killer to become a parasite to society. Youth laws protect him somewhat. In the states, should he have been tried as an adult in a state with the death penalty, well... And there;s no uncertainty like someone said, did we get the wrong guy.

Abortion: Against
If we take as granted that convenience killing of humans is wrong (and I hope we do), then the question is about when an embryo or foetus becomes a person.

By the 14th week of pregnancy a baby will calm down in response to it's parents voices and has all organs formed (if immature). A woman I used to work with had a baby born in the 21st week and which survived (now aged 8 years). There are only two punctuated points in the baby's development: conception and birth, everything else is "shades of grey" in agreeing when the baby becomes a person. I go with the baby being a person from the point of conception...

Death penalty: Against

There are 3 possible reasons for the sentences we doll out to offenders:
1) Protection of the Innocent
2) Rehabilitation of Offenders
3) Punishment of the Guilty (maybe to make the public or the victims feel better).

I don't accept (3) as a valid reason in a civilised society, (1) is adequately fulfilled by incarceration and (2) is impossible with the death penalty. Make them pay something back to the society they harmed - impossible if they're dead.

Prayer in School: Mixed

It's inappropriate to force prayer on those that don't believe in a faith and therefore turn them into hypocrites. But I think schools should provide support for those who do wish to express their faith in this way.

Sex Ed.: For

Make sure kids are informed about the facts (mechanics of sex/pregnancy/contraception) and allow them to share concerns about the emotional side in a supportive and non-judgemental environment.

Homosexual Marriage: Against

Marriage is what marriage is. By all means provide legal recognition for same-sex couples, but don't call it marriage.

Child Tax credits: Undecided

Gun Control: For

Recognising that control does not mean the same as abolishment.

Abortion: Well quite obviously I'm against it. I don't think anyone would actively enjoy having an abortion.

But by any chance do you mean 'The right to choose'? Well, obviously I'm for that. I find this statement:

Lizard of Oz said:
The point I'm trying to make is that nobody can determine when that little knot of cells becomes sentient, therfeore killing it at anytime is wrong.

utterly illogical. If nobody can determine when those cells are sentiment, then it has to be up to individual choice, since no-one is qualified to draw a line.

Death penalty: Against. The chance of wrongful conviction is too great, particularly in America. And I find the 'they're too worthless to spend prison money on' particularly abhorrent.

Prayer in school: Against. Not only in public schools, but as someone who used to be incredibly devout as a child, I believe that children should be protected from brainwashing until they are old enough to not simply accept what authority figures tell them.

Naturally trying to enforce that would be too oppressive to be worth it, so I've got a simpler solution: end tax breaks and grants and suchlike for religious organisations. The moment they actually have to make people pay at the door for religion - by which, of course, I mean charge the faithful, not the taxpayer - congregations will leave faster than you can say Deuteronomy with no pronunciation errors.

Sex ed: For. Better kids learn from teachers than from priests or their friends.

Gay marriage: I think we've covered that sufficiently.

Child tax credits:Against. Take that money and use it to encourage the children we already have too many of to go to school.

Gun control: If a slippery slope argument is the best reason for keeping a lethal weapon that allows you (or whoever can get to the gun) to kill someone whenever you damn well feel like it you can come up with, then I'm most certainly for. Buy some Viagra or something, it does exactly the same thing and it's probably more effective at protecting you. If someone's pointing his (legally acquired under the Protection Of The Most Almighty, Holy and Inviolate Three-Hundred-Year-Old Bit Of Paper) gun at you and demanding your wallet, trying to pull your gun is just going to get you shot. Chapping him into oblivion with a rock-hard penis, however, now that'll surprise him.
