HUD Design

If the hud is scaleable does that mean that it will retain the same hud to resolution ratio? Can there be an option (for those with big screens) to retain the smaller size of say the hud from 800x600 on a 1280x1024 setup?

I like Zak's new hud arrangement too ;)

Well I'm glad this thread is still going strong; I personally really hope the delay is in part due to UT·XMP's HUD getting the same level of love and attention that the games other art assets have clearly received... Even though the original XMP HUD was "ok" I thought it was kind of scabby compared to what the rest of the game had to offer. Considering UT·XMP will be a free mod, that we will likely be able to give it any treatment that pleases us, and the appallingly ugly HUD that shipped on Tribes Vengeance -- shockingly bad for such an expensive game; I don't think any of the options UT·XMP may offer will be a serious disappointment...

But here's hopeing for a really sexy projected animorphic HUD... Would really make UT·XMP the standard setter...

It would be great if they could offload some of the HUD info onto a second monitor. Nearly all graphics cards have a second monitor output now and I use it with an old monitor. Using it for stats and maps wouldn't be very hard for the card to handle and give tiny icons room to grow.

i just ask for a reasonable, sensible hud.

one that doesnt cause months of inflamatory commentaries among the existing fans, let alone among potentially new fans...

Actually I have been waiting for a game that gives the option to export radar and score information to the second monitor. Personally, I need the hud on the screen I am doing the shooting on.

i'm sure they can deliver everything we hope for
and as i said before
when we actually played the game for a couple of days,weeks,months
then the time is right for improvements

and another thing

people that think that the tribal hud is still on are silly also
as
there's a sticky thread,closed but sticky, that shows other huds also
and that are a big improvement on the tribal one

for now

let's just wait till we play the damn game before we make improvements about it, as frankly

we all don't know **** (including me)

I actually kinda miss the tribal HUD. Quite visceral, it was.

All I really care about is that the HUD tells me clearly what I need to know, to play the game. Typically, bullets and health type things. The rest, they can do whatever they want with it. If it bothers me, I can scale it down and make it semi-transparent (which I already do by the way).

The new Metroid Prime 2 Echos HUD design takes their flavor of anamorphic projected helmet HUD design up a notch -- very pretty stuff that with a few twist and tweaks could be done with the originanal XMP HUD art assets:

Regardless UT·XMP will be great! The latest new (if anyone missed it) is really exciting!

It's a cool HUd, but it's Metroid. I don't think it would work so good for XMP, personally.

here is my oppinion on the HUD
i hated the early design hud (the blue block one in the matinee build) just didn't look great after finding out how to access thhe UTXMP content via small fiddling with batch files i got to use it and rather liked it
now maybe we should let them finish the game and then use the HUD then see if u like it
if not make ur own :D
when i find out how i'll tell ya

Hey Sir_Brizz, they are different games sure, but also have a lot in common; in both games players are wearing some kind of helmet and have access to a lot of telemetry... Posting the Metroid and Republic Commando HUDs was not intended as examples to be cloned or copied -- but to illustrate how anamorphic helmet based HUDs should look if scaled properly -- it also offers a much more convincing and immersive play experience -- then flat 2D overlays... As I said earlier the original XM HUD could be given the anamorphic helmet projection treatment and look very good...

It's a lot better than the previous tribal design but still too big imho.
I'd realy like to get the standard u2xmp hud :(
