Hmm... It seems that the whole into is very music-dependent. It automatically teleports you further in if you pause during the intro, while the music continues playing... So maybe something's wrong with the music scripts instead...

Could be and then Vista is affected too (alongside with W7) because back then when I was having this problem I ran Vista x64.

I think I may have found the problem... It may be DirectMusic. Wikipedia says that DirectMusic is no longer supported since WinVista, and that's when the problems began to appear. So hopefully this can be fixed by transferring some missing DLL files to Vista/7 installations. I'll have to check once I get my new PC running, but if someone can try it now, it would be cool.

The patch is here: http://www.filefront.com/15075385/Win2k3_Diretmusic_Patch.rar/

That patch is for Windows 2003. Not Vista. the readme says the author is working on Vista Implementation, but did he release that?

Oh, I missed the word "implementation". Well, in any case, the important files are DLLs and the registry keys can be reused, so if it doesn't work right now, you'll need to find Vista compatible DLLs...

I am afraid to try it out when it is not for Vista, unless someone confirms it...
I think you need different version of this patch.

All that the patch does is adds DLLs and registers them as well as add necessary registry data so the system (and so the games) would recognise it. So there is no risk involved - worst case scenario is that it wouldn't help.
Also, as you can see here:
http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t509162.html
you can "just get dmusic.inf from the dx redist (its found in dxnt.cab) , and after copying all the dll's to the system32, copy the inf file to /windows/inf and right click it and chose install." That way you won't even have to use the registry keys.

The problem is there are already dlls with the same name, no way I am doing this really, I don't wanna break anything. I know how windows is already broken. Until I know for sure it's safe.

Wait, there are those in System32? Are you using the 32-bit version of Vista? And is there a tab "Music" when you launch dxdiag.exe?

Yes there are those in System32 and yes I am using 32 bit version I guess, but no, no music tab in dxdiag.

Hmm, very interesting. That means that the system does have DirectMusic, just for some reason doesn't know that it has it... Check your Windows/inf folder if it has "dmusic.inf" and check regedit.exe if you have Microsoft.DirectMusic key in your HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder (for those who are using 64bit OS, check under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Wow3264Node).

Hmm, strange... Try downloading the DirectX redistributable:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...4b-00d1-474e-b7b1-442d8712d553&displaylang=en

Then extract dxnt.cab from it, then extract dmusic.inf and if available, dmusic.pnf, put them into Windows/inf and right click -> Install on the Inf file. Reboot and see if there are any changes to dxdiag tabs and Unreal II intro.
Also, what's the size and version of your dmusic.dll?

Hmm, the DMusic that comes with WinXP x64 is 112 kB and it's version 5.3.3790.3959. I wonder if they removed something from it in Vista...
