Quote of the thread...can be a fine line.
MM, I don't like the huge following the Bible has either. It frustrates me that some people (some meaning those who consider it word for word) would base their lives and attitudes on a text that has no more legitimacy to me than tales of the phoenix, or dragons, or any other tale either based on a reality or made up completely. I see the good points in it and the great ideas, but then I also see anger and violence, and the hate it can inspire. I don't see why people can't bypass the 'selective reading' stage and go straight to having their own morals and attitudes of acceptance of all.
However, other people see this as a deeply personal truth, something that they have actually experienced. I could dismiss this as a psychological thing, but then in truth, there are many people prepared to say the same about our lives and who we can fall in love with.
Having an opinion is great, but unless you are being opressed by other people's opinions then there is no reason for you to crusade against what they think. You can try and tell people about the way you think, engage in debates about issues, however when you bring anger and frustration into it as you appear to do, you are in danger of spreading your own kind of opression.
It's like the phelps bloke who protested outside of Matthew Shepherd's funeral. He says it's for people's own good that he does this. By trying to spread what he thinks is right, all he spreads is hate. Obviously you're nowhere near his level, but just bear in mind that whereas we can't see the logic in something, it does not mean than none can exist.
I don't whant give any comment about that, because same of you may be hurt
