DRM Shuts Down Gears of War PC - Updated

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

Actually yeah, they do take action. I submitted my complaint.
Next I received an email saying my complaint was received and would be investigated.
Next I received an email asking what I would consider to be a positive outcome.
I replied saying my $49.99 returned for the game.
I then received my check in the mail.

I also never contacted the game company except through their support system which kept kicking back replies of "no known fix."
That's true. They actually do contact the companies to inform them of complaints, usually.

Wasnt Stardock that thing that was crashing everyone in the known universes systems and even keeping the game it was attached to from being installed properly?
I know King Kong for pc had it and a few others.

Yup, you are thinking of Starforce, a horrible DRM system that was popular with Publishers a while back, but since it caused physical damage to people's PC's they had to stop using it.

Stardock is a devoloper of Windows apps (stuff like Windows Blinds) that have ventured into game design, they made Sins Of a Solar Empire, and they made quite the name for themselves for speaking out against using DRM, infact SOASE has nothing, not even a CD-key i hear.

Searching this problem and some talking with Dark Pulse brought me back to Beyondunreal. I gotta say, I had been disappointed by Epic lately and was considering stealing this game, but I figured that Epic had brought me good stuff in the past, I owe them the loyalty of buying this. The game has been alright, but man, I hope I don't wind up regretting buying this instead of stealing it.

Sometimes the game crashes (we call it a minidump) but for the most part it's pretty playable. Stardock's version of DRM is that you need to install and use Impulse (like Steam but maybe less intrusive) to update the game and also that you can only log onto Ironclad Online for online multiplayer if you have a legit key.
