Wow, the homosexuality coming from most of the guys on this board is more frightening then id's masterpiece. A lot of you criticize the engine as not being able to handle more light sources or believe that is the reason why it is dark, but keep in mind the engine can do anything as long as the hardware power is there to support. So it is not the engine that can't deliver, it is your systems. Doom 3 is very strong technology that it is ahead of its time in terms of hardware, and thus is offered in a state that computers can handle. A dark atmospheric, freaky, and all around brilliant environment.

I was always a ut'er at heart, but today I' am ashamed of those of you who act gay and do not give respect where it is due.
Actually, in all honesty, the Doom 3 Engine isn't as performance hungry as you're all making out and as I mentioned. Infact from what I've experienced it's less demanding that Far Cry, though what I've experienced is the Alpha that was actually illegally available in the summer of 2002. On my system (spec mentioned above) it ran quite well and with it's REAL release, there will be more than likely a huge number of performance optimisations for all systems so it'll run better, not worse

I've never seen such an assembly of idiots...

Wait, bluesnews forums (100x worse)... but still, you people pretty freaking stupid! Unreal fanboys *shakes head*

First of all, you don't NEED a super PC to play Doom 3 (benchmarks shown that the minimum requirements (Geforce 3 or equivalent) will run it fine (unlike other games whose min requirements just lets you open but not play propperly). Need i remind people what Unreal 1 had pretty ****ing steep requirements back in it's time.
Second of all, comparing Doom 3 engine and Unreal 3 engine is like comparing Apollo 11 to the Enterprise. Two completely different time zones. Doom 3 is a 4 year old engine. Unreal 3 isn't even going to be seen until 2006 and ATM, can just run at 30 fps on a GF6800U.
Third of all, all reviews so far of Doom 3 have given it ~96. If you're gonna fault it on it's lack of MP, then you have no idea. It's an SP game first, and a pretty damn good one from what i've heard. I can't wait to get it tomorrow.

It looks amazing...

I'm definitaly buying this... probably not on the release date (why really), but I'm getting this game.
Looks like the action is there, you don't "need" an invasion of monsters to keep the adrenaline pumping.. (just an impression I got after watching this).

Doom3 looks promising.

I'll admit that in Doom 3s' defense, Unreal 2 had NO multiplayer maps, at least Doom 3 has SOME, then Unreal 2 got XMP so I would think that Id have similar ideas. In the same way Unreal Tournament is to Unreal, Quake is to Doom. Quake 4 (will be released on December 31, 2004 - amazon.co.uk) will be the Multiplayer game based on the Doom 3 technology.

How do you know Quake4 will have multiplayer, and if so.. how do you know what it'll be like?

Isn't Quake4 supposed to be concentrating on single player (so I've read before, in the past.. year I think.)

I could be wrong, you could be right. I could be right, you could be wrong.

I've just visited ravengames.com, no real info on the game so far?
Maybe I've missed it somewhere?
Anything mentioned on the multiplayer?

Where did you get your info?

I read an article a while back and I have a couple of friends who are total Quake/Doom fanatics, both of which are up on the subject. I won't say for definite that Quake is to be Multiplayer, but as I understand it, after Q3A and Q3TA, they're making Q4 another "Arena" title

It looks like a well put together single player game. Yeah, so Doom3's multiplayer is lacking, but atleast they focussed on the non-online aspects of the game. I think they should add a patch or something to open up multiplayer better though.

$55 is too much for a game. I'll wait until it goes down in price.

The only things about doom3 which really impress me are:
- dynamic lighting which works very well
- physics are supposed to be very cool as well

Those are about the only 2 things it has more than unrealengine 2.5

Maybe the character shaders in doom3 are better than those in ut2k4.

Keep in mind that with unreal engine 2.5 you can create similar environments to doom3's environments with probably alot more detail because of the humongous ammount of poly's the unreal engine can handle. It's just that such environments aren't very suited for ut2k4's gameplay.

I think doom3 will be a cool single player game and a good tech demo, multiplayer will probably suck.

"honestly, why do we have a Doom 3 video here?... "

Who dares question the wisdom of QAPete?;)

Seriously though, the video with the 5.1 sound and the volume cranked up is great! I'll probably get the game, but not immediately. I'm too involved with UT/UT2004 stuff right now, but may get it sometime in September or October. I don't know if I can hold off long enough to wait for it for a Christmas present though.

This is a one-off, and to my knowledge the only time we've ever done something like this. I hardly think 'wasting' 40MB of server space on one Doom 3 video is really an issue.
yea, but i can be with other things as well. And now, there is that server fund also going on. I mean, yea its nice to have lots of news, but If I want Doom 3 info, I go to Doom 3 sites.

But its not an importan issue, dont get me wrong, im not bashing anyone. I've been around BU for quite some time, and I never been a pain, so I hope things don't feel like that.

Anyways, as for Server fund, I hope I can contribute some more, if I can, I will. I know, every 1$ helps, but thats not really a good way to contribute, LOL.

Well, I'm a fan of the Doom series and I've played it online a lot. It does kinda suck that there isn't gonna be a crap load of monsters on the screen, but the monsters aren't sprites anymore..

I did play the alpha leak on my Geforce 3 and it ran pretty damn good. I think this game is going more into processor drain than vid card drain as with newer games in the future.

As for the cost..check out a local walmart instead of looking online. It's like $47 bucks, normal price of just about any new game. Shop around and ask people how the game plays on their systems before you judge.

I don't think he was wrong at all for posting the vid, just kinda a gift to go along with letting everyone know Doom will be out soon [not everyone goes to 10 different game sites a day]. He post the news and if he's interested in something, he's gonna damn well post on it. He has every right to. Props to ya!

I guess you don't understand the concept of 'sarcasm' ???

but keep in mind the engine can do anything as long as the hardware power is there to support it. So it is not the engine that can't deliver, ...
I'd rather see proof of that in the game instead of stories about the theoretical limits for the engine.

I consider it very suspect that the game itself places so much of its effort on displaying dark rooms with limited light-sources. I really wonder what kind of performance hit we'll see when the first mods with 'normal' lighting appear.

Besides ... it may be a nice engine, but the game that's using it is still stuck in the dark ages of gaming. Hell, they're even repeating the story of the first Doom.

But even after all this the game is too frelling expensive for what it offers.
There's no way they can justify $70 (that's what we in Europe are expected to pay for this pile of bits) for a pure singleplayer only game.
Shopping around hasn't given me any option other than pre-ordering. And D3 sure as hell aint' that great that I would want to pre-order it at the 'normal' price of € 50 (= +/- $60).
