Nope. I don't buy the whole "life on other planets" idea. Ofcourse believing or not believing has little to do with intellegence. I'd say that it boils down to your background (Religious,cultural.....) more than anything since even our own orgion can not be proven. Evolution (as it pertains to Man beginning)is a theory that has yet to be proven and God creating Man (in his present form) is a matter of faith. If I did believe in E.T's, I would be hard pressed to reconcile it with my belief in God.

By God I am speaking from the Christian stand point, which (amongst other things) specifies that not only was Mankind created by God but he was also created in God's image and after God's likeness. This along with the "fact" that Man was given dominion over all of the other creations of God (land, sea and air) ,establishes Man as His finest creation for whom all of the physical universe was created. In essence, we are the reason why God created everything else that exits. This makes it highly unlikely that there is life on other planets. It's really not so difficult to believe if you ask yourself one question; Why the heck would He create all if this stuff anyway?! After all the universe is...well..really....big. At first glance it sounds rather unlikely but if you take into account that origionally Man was designed to be immortal ("Sin came into the world and death BY sin") just this one planet alone would have been filled beyond capacity 100's of times over by now. We would have to live somewhere besides the Earth.

By the way...this is not my official return.....just a small preview(In other words I won't be around to tackle any responses just yet.....but soon.)

Hey bonehead. ;) The Bible doesn't mention North America either or Mexico, or South America. Doesn't talk about the North or South Poles, Hawaii, Alaska or Southern Africa. Doesn't make it any less credible just because it doesn't say what YOU think it should say. :p

heres a question for fuzz/rukee/others. what if god and his higher ups are the things that people refer to as aliens? theyre many terms in the bible that could be interpreted as space craft, flaming chariots from the sky anyone? and if you think about it the "aliens" seem to be studying us, checking up onus, seeing how we are doin. without doing anything to help or hurt us. theyre just "watching".

thats exactly my point. just because it doesnt mention a place or race or species, doesnt mean it isnt there.

do you see?

People say that it might be possible to travel into the past, since it’s already happened, but they say you can’t travel into the future, because it hasn’t happened yet. I had a theory about this that I brought up with a physics professor of mine. I said: Say we consider a timeline and the past is over here, and the present is over there. What is to say that “our” present isn’t in the middle somewhere? That is to say, we have a past that we can go to on the timeline, and a future, because that future is somebody else’s present. Who is to say that we aren’t living in the past to some degree? If we went back in time, then the people we meet would be living in the past to us, and we would be their future, so why couldn’t the same thing happen to us?

If somebody was ahead of us on the timeline and they went back in time to our present, this would give us a future we could go to, and a past both. This is why I brought up the idea that the spaceships people see might be from our future. Is anybody confused yet?

Qualth : I'm thinkning that makes sense... to be able to travel backwards in time but not forwards is a bit contradictory, because there has to always be a 'fututre' to arrive from... meaning that a future would always exist, even though were are stuck in the present.... or something along this lines :\
gah too late in the morning.... brain fired

...think about this Q ... did skateboards exist 1000 years ago ?

I guess my point was, if even if skateboards didnt exist physically, the idea behind the device already existed for us to discover, so if you went back in time skateboards would still exist because they were never non-existent... the same goes with nuclear power :>

kinda of a roundabout theory really...

Nah. The point I tried to make is that the people in the future are us.

I tried raising the topic before but noone reacted. Do we move along the 4th dimension or do we have an expansion along it?
I believe the latter, becuase the other would be kinda awkward as I explained somewhere in the science thread.
But OK i repeat: If we and the whole universe we know is now what is before and after our present? Empty space? Why is everything moving with the same speed? Or if that isn't true can we bumb into something that exists before us? And how is speed defined along the 4th dimension? Speed in 3D is space change over time. But time change over time doesn't make sense so...? Meta-Time? Super-Time?
I see it so that everything exists at every point in time, like a thread from beginning to end, and if we move that just means the thread isn't a stright line in 4D. If we stand still it IS a straight line.

WAIT!
I just noticed I CAN travel into the future! In fact, I do right now! Do you see?

And when I concentrate I can travel into the past also... in the time machine called memory.
