PCIe x16 has to do with the Physical Layer of the standard. 99.99% of all video cards are PCIe x16 regardless of PCIe 2.0, 1.1 or 1.0.

There are four Physical Layer standards. x1, x4, x8, and x16 (Think of AGP 2x, 4x)

BUT the slots where the card plug in are typically different sizes depending on the PL. A PCIe x16 card wont fit in a x1, x4, x8 slot, A PCIe x8 card wont fit in a x1, x4 slot, etc..
Only on rare occasions, such as older SLi setups, the x16 slots can be lowered to x8 speeds due to stability.

x16 & x8 are primarily for Video cards, x1 & x4 are for sound cards, capture cards or basically anything else that you would normally stick in a PCI slot but the manufacturer has updated to the new PCIe standard.

PCIe 2.0 is backward and forward compatible with PCIe v1.x. PCI Express 2.0 has good backwards compatibility, new PCIe 2.0 graphics cards are compatible with PCIe 1.1 motherboards, meaning that they will run on them using the available bandwidth of PCI Express 1.1. Overall, graphic cards or motherboards designed for v2.0 will be able to work with the other being v1.1 or v1.0

In conclusion...

Any PCIe 2.0 x16 card would work in your mobo as long as it has a x16 slot regardless if it's 1.0, 1.1, or 2.0 as the cards themselves are backwards compatible. (Think usb 2.0 devices on usb 1.0 or 1.1 computers.)

You won't get all the speed benefits of 2.0 on a 1.0 or 1.1 board, but it will work.

What Vlad said...

I have buds running x16 video slots on their mobo but have 260gtx or 280gtx cards and yes, they will work that way...As Vlad said, 2.0 has more bandwidth than other 'sizes'. You just won't get the full compliment of bandwidth in a '2.0 slot' if you don't have a 2.0 compatible card...

Now I need some of those pills, cuz I don't drink...

I didn't look but just make sure your mobo will support the PC8500, else it will be overkill...

HDD, and I've been promoting these for some time, even in this thread somewhere, but the WD 640gb, which were on sale last week for $59.99 on Newegg, are very nice...They are on a dual platter system and get speeds just as good as some of the higher priced hard drives...Good bang for the buck...I'm running 2 in RAID 0 and one 'on the side' as I picked one up last week when they were on sale...

Pennies...

I assume you already tried another monitor. Otherwise, it probably is either your mobo or vid card.

Ohio...that suck ass STATE.
You probably blew the mobo. If you have lights on the mobo it doesn't mean it's good. If you have pressed the power and nothing turns on (processor fan, Power Fan, and south bridge fan) it's mobo. The power switch is connected to the mobo and if you aren't getting anything fired up...MOBO is done. Processor could be gone too but you won't find that out until you get it installed in a new one.

Sounds like we need to do some trouble shooting to narrow down whats wrong.
Another possible item could be the Power Supply.. Even if you have power to your Mother-Board one of the 12V Rails could have blown. Its a ANTEC 850 and odds are its fine.

Dev is there another PC you have access to in order to check a few items? Brother, Mom, Kas, Friend??
If so you should test your Graphic Card in it and see if it Post to the Monitor..
It it doesn't post thats your culprit, if it does post then odds are your Mobo blew something. Do you still have your Old (AGP) Mobo and Graphic card? Test them in your rig to rule out the Powersupply.. You get the idea.. Rule items out first, good news is your Mobo is probably still under warranty and you wasn't Over Clocking or anything..
