It's time for the industry to grow beyond making clones of games we've been playing already for 10 years and develop some meaningful *gasp* ORIGINAL ideas.
so you use an example of a game that is similar to other games, to back up your point, then say the author of the email used horrible examples??Yellow Five said:I've spent more money on independent titles the past few months than anything else. In fact I just picked up Minions of Mirth (http://www.prairiegames.com/) today for $25 bucks which is a steal. If you are an RPG fan and want the chance to play a game similar to EQ/Morrowind in scope check it out.
....
The author of the email used some horrible examples but I can totally agree with the concept of what he was trying to say.
yep!BeerGut said:Sounds like a pathetic nerd thats jealous of all the attention Gears of War is getting. He has no life, he'll never have sex, and he'll die lonely in his underwear while playing Yu-Gi-Oh in his late 60's. I pity him.

Some independent games are good though, I'll give you that.
(i may have misread your post... I'm 1/4 of the way to the bottom of a 1.75)

With a series like UT you have alot of room, especially room to take risks. Look at Ut2003? It wasn't the greatest game of all time, but it WAS a risky game.Yellow Five said:I should have explained better. Similar in scope when it comes to size of game world and RPG features, just trying to compare it to something to give an idea of what it's about. Had I just said "it's an RPG" and left it at that it wouldn't have given you an idea of the type/style of RPG.
Using Metal Gear Solid 4 (4!!!) was a stupid example for the author to use. The fourth in a series and not much different than the previous games. He was pissing and moaning about being original and then used that as his example. He also turned it into a personal attack which was silly. He could have explained himself better but instead comes across as an ass.
I personally think it's okay to do a sequel if the game is great but once you venture into the 4th, 5th and 6th version of what is essentially the same game then it gets old. I mean, that's like Rocky V territory.![]()
AH! What is this "Outer world" of which you speak?Bang_Doll said:BUT THAT'S WHERE ALL THE BAD PEOPLE ARE!!! *breaks down into tears*
KoshiJoshi said:Lmao, the person who wrote that mail is a idiot, it sounds like he might be one of those jealous developers who is so crap at their job that they cannot get any recognition, as far as im concerned i've always enjoyed the unreal series and in my eyes it is miles better than games like quake, i dunno why i think that but the constant cratering in q3:arena made me scream in frustration(it was so easy to crater even if you didnt fall from a high place)
may death come upon this person with big pointy teeth(monty python)
Sir_Brizz said:IMO, the problem is that too many publishers OWN the developers that work for them.
