I'm going to have to lean against Gearbox now.
When I first heard of this game like a month ago it sounded amazing. Now it just seems like it sounds amazing on paper. It has many good selling points, but the more gameplay videos I watch, the more exceedingly boring it actually seems. It looks like an endless bunch of loot quests in the same environment, until you finally give up on getting a better gun realizing the enemies will level with you and put you right back in the same spot you just were. How many times are you going to throw that turret out before you get sick of it? And from what I've heard, all the weapon sounds are weeeeeeeak. I'm hoping that's just internet audio, but who knows. Really though it seems like just a bunch of ideas from other games cobbled into one. MMORPG quests, leveling up like every other game, open world, Serious Sam-like giant monsters, and despite the emphasis on the art it all looks gray, brown and blue to me.
The DLC seems like a joke. How creative are the guys at Gearbox? Zombies?
To me that just screams that they are trying to cash in on a current trend. This is great for business, but I don't want to play a game that is just cashing in. I want to play something unique. People aren't stupid, they know they've seen everything here before (except maybe the weapon-gen system, which in all honesty will be the coolest part of the game). Years ago no one would have thought of selling mini-updates to the game. Apparently DLC is the way to go these days, and since other devs are doing it it must be alright for everyone. As if the $60 price tag isn't ridiculous in it's own right.
To sum up: Borderlands now seems lame, and DLC blows hard.
We shall see.
