somewhere; sometime?
I went ahead and preordered this today.
the people I've been playing L4D with here at school don't seem too interested in L4D2, just more of the same with some new features and levels. but now everyone is hyped for Borderlands... after I directed it to their attention. I think that'll be the next big thing among my gamer friends.

you know how sometimes the premise of a game seems too good to be true?
well so far Borderlands seems like it's going to be awesome, awesomely-epic, epicly-awesome. I'm really hoping it delivers, but I've learned from past mistakes and I don't build up anything in my mind until I've actually played it.

I rarely preorder games, I have to be sure I'll like it. and to this point, I've been right the few times that I've gone out on that limb. fingers crossed that Borderlands won't break my winning streak.

The more I look at this game the more I think I would enjoy it (FPS + Diablo style = OMG). Unfortunately I have a handful of other FPS games in my backlog that I want to whittle down before grabbing another one. But this game is awfully tempting so I might scrap that plan.

I really like the attitude and atmosphere put forth by the trailer currently on Steam.

Those sounds are probably beta sounds. Sound effects are often among the last things put into the game.

That's what they said about World at War.

Honestly, if the sounds stay like they are, that's enough to put me off of the game. There are plenty of other options for co-op shooters out there these days, and while I do like the premise of Borderlands, I can't stand shooters with weak weapon sounds.

Enter Derek Smart!

Some things never die. :D

People still listen to him?

EDIT: Actually most of what he said sounds in-line with what Zombie Cow and Tripwire already said.

So I just realized... Borderlands, Torchlight, and L4D2 Demo all hit Steam around the same time. Sounds like a good time to take a personal day. Or two :D

So far, Borderlands has been reviewed officialy twice.

-85% by OXM
-91% by Atomic MPC(Aussie mag): 96% on graphics saying "Simply stunning execution." Gameplay received 89% saying "Some repetetion but mostly fun", and sound got a 90% "Flavoursome and Rich".

Looking good so far ;D

I have my eye on this game, it looks promising and might just be on my "to buy" list or "to ask someone to get me for Christmas" list or "buy with money I acquire at Christmas time" list

If anything, this will convince me that Borderlands is actually a PC game rather than a console game ported to PC. :)

It is an actual PC game. "Port" implies that we created the game from the ground up to run on consoles and then decided later to messily make it run on PC. If anything, Borderlands is a PC game that we made run on the consoles.

All three skews were developed at the same time and the PC version was probably the one version that got the most play and testing from the developers. All the menus have mouse support, etc. The PC version of this game is as solid as other PC-only shooters.

"Port" is a term that doesn't have much meaning anymore, especially with UE3 games.

Mirror's Edge uses UE3. The "tutorial level" on the PC version gives you instructions that relate to an X-box360 controller. Even when you don't have one plugged in.

There's nothing that screams "port" louder than a "we can't be bothered to detect your preferred controller".

Not that that it has stopped me from pre-ordering Borderlands mind.

PC or xbox360, PC or xbox 360?! I don't know. I've got friends I want to play with on 360, but a game like this screams PC! I want my preferred control setup of PC keyboard and mouse but I also want to play with my buddies.

My buddies used to be PC gamers but are too poor to be arsed to build a new rig to play with me. :(

I've been watching a little of this video. It's 32 minutes of 4 player co-op.

Anyhoo, listening to their commentary I realized there are a lot of ways the game can be improved, patched, or added on to with DLC. What are the plans for that in the future? Also I know its early but what are Gearbox's policy regarding pricing for pc versus xbox? Some companies like valve will give stuff for free on pc, but have to charge for 360.

I didn't have that in Mirror's Edge. :)

But that doesn't scream "port" at all, it screams "lazy" or "missed something".

I liked the sounds, myself (having played it). I don't watch the videos for these games very often, so I don't know what the sounds are like in the video, but I think something like "weapon sounds" is pretty subjective.
