There's nothing inherently "wrong" about it (apart from matchmaking), but it just doesn't seem to offer much/anything over the shooters you already have.

I played it for a few hours and had a spot of fun with it, but it just made me want to play counterstrike or battlefield2142 instead.

Max Payne 2 is a great deal... if you didn't buy the Max Payne collection on Steam for $2.50 a while back.

Yeah, I'd have to buy two games and make 9 new friends... just to be entered.

I don't know how to make friends and I don't even want those games.

(I do have the Undergarden though, it's okay. Will crash if you try to run it with more than one processor. Soul Bubbles is better)

come on it's bloody easy:

1.Yesterday i already had my profile on steam set up with a picture...
2. I already had been playing the poker at the inventory and beaten the heavy.

3. I already have more than 10 friends on steam cos a bunch of you BuF guys are buds with me
4. For the undergarden i just installed the demo, launched the demo, exited and unistalled the demo. I got the achievement.

So far i'm on 4/8. even if i don't win anything i'm bound to get a hat or two for TF2!

You have to admit that it's pushing it in terms of incentivizing you to buy a bunch of games you're not interested in.
I suppose what gets me more than the contest itself is how many people are falling for it and buying games just to enter the contest and get hats.

Valve sure has figured it out, I'll give them that.

I think everyone on TS last night agreed that they will set up those cheevos in a way that everyone will get at least one hat.

I've bought a few of the games, but only because they look fun and are only a couple of bucks each. Chime is a great little game, Poker Night is pretty fun and I like all the characters already, and AAAaaAAah!! is one I've been wanting to check out for quite a while now.

As long as they keep discounting good games I'll keep buying them. The fact that there's a contest around it is simply a bonus.

That's fine. What I'm talking about is this culture of people who sees valve as this kind benevolent entity who will reward them for buying games they weren't really interested in. I just find it interesting how when other companies do it it's a money grabbing scheme, but when valve does it it's this cool friendly act of charity.

I have all the games and more than 10 friends myself, so I don't have a problem with the contest itself. It just blows my mind how many people are buying the games just to enter it, in the same way people will buy games for TF2 hats or achievements in general.

People will buy anything when it is on sale for the right price, it doesn't matter if there is a contest for it or not. That's probably just enough to push a few people who were on the fence over the edge.
