 That is all. Is there anything specific you needed here other than some crazy ass lens?
Also, I dare ask WTF is that thing right there. Huge eyes?

The lens is a 65mm 5x magnification macro lens which requires a focusing rail and some form of flash. I choose the twin light system. The dargonfly was taken with a 100mm macro hand held.

As for that ugly bugger, I have no idea what it is but it swarms here by the thousands. Its about less than 1/8 inch in length.

here's the setup

Excellent stuff Emmet.

Most of my images from the Fourth of July celebration tonight had too much noise. The image below is the only decent shot I have from about 200 pix. This was a two and a half second exposure.

Nice! Did you try lowering the ISO to 100? That helps a lot. Also, not a bad job as it looks as if you didn't use a tripod. 2.5 seconds is a long time to hold still for something like that.

Good tip, BBA. Since it was my first attempt at shooting such imagery, I left the ISO on Auto, which ended up at 400. I'll try 100 next time.

And no, some dummy thought it would be too much trouble to bring the tripod to a barbecue.

I'm really finding your insects shot captivating. Perhaps you would fit in well in the industry, specifically in that area.

I was about to say. YOu must spend alot or all of your money on your stupid camera parts ;;lol:mad:

I was looking at that 5x macro deal, and all the reviews say you should atleast be a mid-high professional to use it. I still barley know how to use mine, so I think I may get the 100mm Macro lens for now and get used to that, before I jump into the high-end stuff like that.

the 100mm macro is definately a nice lens. When coupled with extension tubes it can really take some nice shots. Its easily used hand-held but with the extensions you may need a tripod.

The 5x is a pain in the ass to use. You definately need some flash at full magnification. An ant fart will knock itself out of the sharpness plane. A focusing rail most certainly helps. Unfortunately my rail sucks ass! Its a manfroto 454 which has some side-to-side wobble. This does'nt help when trying to do the "stacking" technique. I may have to look into a novoflex.
