well it sounded like he was talking about the way that, by their own design and necessity, cooperative games cannot maintain an immersive atmosphere compared to that of singeplayer.

I mean, regardless of how it is worked into the system, having 2 simultaneous human players eventually breaks the willing suspension of disbelief. because at some point you guys will end up talking about the movie you saw last week or some sh*t.

you know?
sometimes when you play a singeplayer game, the experience is not dissimilar from that of a person who becomes deeply engrossed in reading a fictional book. their imagination takes hold and they can feel like they're in that story/setting, they become part of the game.

this isn't possible with multiplayer games, not in the way that is possible with solitary singeplayer games.

is that like the pen n' paper games that people talk about?

where you have to stay in character and roll dice and whatnot?
someone on this forum talks about that every once in awhile.

I disagree with this, though. Can't you have that experience with movies? And yet people go watch movies together all the time.

The amount of immersion you have in a game just depends on how you play it or what you do in it. In the case of Borderlands, you're either playing through missions with someone or not with someone. When someone dies, they respawn but not right next to you, they go back to the main area and have to either catch up to you or wait for you to come back to them.

Whenever you experience things with other people, the "disbelief" factor is diminished, for sure, but I don't think it goes away.

I was gonna use that as an example too, but then I thought of how I always want people to stfu when I'm watching a movie, and I bet it's even harder to stay quiet while playing a game right next to each other.

It's possible though, if you and someone else can manage playing like that.

yes that's true.
but the difference is, during a movie you don't usually jaw back n forth to each other the whole time. you (generally) sit in silence and only occasionally react, "OHH" "AHH" or laughing or crying or whatever.

I agree it's not eliminated.
it's just a lot harder to maintain and usually doesn't last very long.

I was just saying what you are saying in a different way.
LOL!

Given your response, that's fair.

I guess my point is, it's just how you personally experience something. I think in something like Borderlands, where communication is granted through some sort of VoIP technology, you still make your own experience. Sitting next to someone on a console or PC is different than in different rooms across the country or whatever.

DnD is far from being my favorite RPG. I'm personnaly going to master a brain soda "campaign", and am part of a L5R, Vampire the masquerade (x3), mages : Dark Ages campaigns.

I've finally got borderlands ! thanks shoptroll for the 4-pack proposal!

I've been trying to figure out what class to play as while I wait for the pc version to release. The soldier and hunter are already taken so it's down to the siren or brick. I'm leaning a little towards brick at the moment, as I think melee might be a little more useful than phasewalk, but I'm not sure. Is there someone willing to offer some insight into the matter?

I've been playing this game at my buddies apartment on his X360 and so far I can safely say that I'm still really looking forward to the day my PC version arrives.
this is one of the few games that has come along in the modern era (anything released after 2006) that has actually been everything I expected. I really can't wait to get my copy.

Agent5: lol, did your friends already call DIBS on the hunter and soldier?

Yeah. :(

If I could pick any class I think I'd probably go for the hunter as I think I'd actually use his hawk skill and being a sniper specialist sounds good.

Roland's turret doesn't sound as appealing, but having bonuses for shotguns and assault rifles would probably make up for it.

Brick's focus seems to be more oriented towards melee and that doesn't quite appeal to me as much - though having something similar to FEAR's combos could change my mind. His skill for improving explosive damage 15% sounds rather weak to me and his only other weapon damage boosting is through a skill that all the other classes have (getting a damage bonus after a kill). I also hear that he sounds annoying when he goes into berserk mode. I imagine that we're going to need a tank though, and Brick is the best for that.

The siren's phase walk sounds a bit meh to me - mostly because of the phase blasts that occur when you transition in or out of it. Running into or near a crowd and phase blasting will probably make all the mobs go aggro on me, and with her being more of the rogue class, I'm guessing her health and shields are lower. One of her skills (phase strike on the assassin tree) doesn't work as intended, and I'm skeptical about elemental damage being any useful. However, her higher level stun skill is supposed to be good, and she has the ability to have an increased firing rate and a passive always-on weapon damage boost - which Brick doesn't have. She's also supposed to be a decent sniper.

So that's my current take on the classes after a bit of reading on the official forums and looking at their skill trees. Is there anything I'm missing? How bad is weapon recoil? WTF can you only start working on your skill tree at level 6? A lot of skills look same-y to me - are the classes that different from each other besides their unique skill?
