About the whole 'negativity turning away potential customers for epic' argument.
Why should this affect BuF?
We're not here to pimp their product. If someone asks about opinions on the game, then not only will they get the negative but also the positive.

We're not here for Epic's benefit. We're here to discuss their work (and occassionally share porn).

The point is, you are like the kid who pees in the pool cause he has to go home. Plain and simple. You don't have to "be here for epics benefit" in any way, but that doesn't give you the right to try and ruin it for the rest of us by being so negative (therefore turning people away). Even when I am saying how good the game is, I make sure to give the other side as well (as much of it as I agree with). Because I want them to make an informed decision. But there are way too many ppl on here that only complain and talk trash. There is nothing constructive about it, no attempts to get things fixed, or anything like that.

Anuban made a good point, a lot of the issues are being addressed with patches. The flamers need to accept that nothing is ever perfect, but Epic is making an effort to resolve the vast majority of the issues. Will the result be UT3 playing like 2k4? Absolutely not (thank goodness). But when you say something like "The UI looks like it was designed by a 3 year old retarded monkey", you really just illustrate your own ineptitude. Especially when these issues have been posted on numerous times and worded in a much better way (and have already been included in the change list for patch 2).

I mean, unless i'm mistaken BuF started as a forum supporting the community for a given game, not a place for people to rag on the game constantly. If that is what it eventually turns into, I will no longer visit. I'm also sure that i'm not the only person, and then BuF runs the risk of only being host to a bunch of people who only log on to spit venom about the current incarnation of the game. They will have to change the name to B1tchin@Unreal forums.

If you want to complain, please do so in the 2k4 forums, for that will have less of an effect on perception than in the UT3 forum. If you want to voice legitimate concerns that you would like to see addressed, please word it in a mature way, and don't post it in 50 different threads (not counting the 3 you opened yourself).

Im just surprised they havent banned anyone yet over all this though, not even 1? All it takes is to make an example of one person and the rest should back off some.

Then again maybe my views are just so jaded so all I see is alot of trolls when in reality they are making constructive posts. Yeah thats it hey!

It's one thing to have a dissenting opinion, it' a whole 'nother ball o wax to constantly thump whatever issue irks you.

I'm sure each and everyone here has something about UT3 they strongly dislike.

Funny I don't recall users rushing Epic to release an unfinished game at all. When Mark Rein said it will be done when its done we all pretty much excepted that because we wanted a great game. Please stop blaming us UT gamers ... this is not our fault. Blame Midway if you are looking for someplace to lay fault.

You must have not been involved in the community very much over the past year if you think everyone just accepted that.

Nope, the gamers didn't just accept that, but it wasn't the gamers that motivated Epic to release when they did. Proof of this is in how little Epic listens to the gamers. They wouldn't base their release date on anything we told them even if one of us happened to know the secret of the Universal Release Date of Awesomeness Ordained by God.

Aye, I've rarely seen publishers not rush a game to its completion. Happens all the time, only giants like Blizzard can afford not rushing a game these days. If only the publishers would learn from games like Tabula Rasa and UT3, but I'm afraid it'll take a decade or so more until they do...

Apart from me believing that god doesn't exist and thus has no special ordaining powers, I guess if somebody happened to know said Universal Release Date of Awesomeness, then he'd have the arguments to back it up. Epic listens to arguments, they just don't listen to the "waaa waaa", as it was put so eloquently and fittingly in that great pic.

There are very few companies that have personal interaction with their communities (at least, any more often than Epic does).

The best thing to do is look at the changelogs to see that they are, indeed, listening.

Interesting theory ... maybe if the game was priced at $30 it would be flying off shelves and getting rave reviews from everyone including the gamers ...

Good luck getting Epic to drop the price and try that strategy though ... not when you are getting a full fledged Editor bundled with every copy. This is something other 97% of other games just don't give you and this is what makes UT3 such a great game ... being able to build the kind of "anything" that you want.

I don't think people should have low expectations ... just realistic ones and a lot of folks do. It was realistic to expect the UI to be closer in functionality to what it has been for the past 7 years, it was realistic to expect something more than a revamped ONS as the major star of the game, it was realistic to expect more character models with greater customization options, it was realistic to expect that the mutator and game rule settings would be saved, it was realistic to expect DX10 code that would allow Vista based systems to use FSAA like Gears PC, etc., etc. you get what I am saying. Basically though things are starting to progress well ... with the second patch Epic has really made substantial improvements to the game and all that the true hardcore addicts and lovers of this game want is for that to continue in earnest and at least get us closer to this being the amazing game we have waited 2 plus years for.

You seem to have misread just about everything i wrote, where does the money enter the picture? i mentioned no such thing.

But yes, all the things you mentioned where realistic expectations, but thats the whole point isen't it? the game does not live up to realistic expectations, let alone high ones, so is it really any wonder that people feel dissapointed? and people who buy it today will be no more impressed with it than thouse of us who got it months ago.

Therefore, low expectations would actually work in our favour, if you enter the game with low expectations, or at the very least knowing about the many things that are broken or missing, you wont be dissapointed, infact you are more likely to be pleasantly supriced by the things that are good and does work.

Hell, i wish i had ventured into UT3 with that mindset, instead i am left with the dissapointment.

Thats why i say this community will only grow on the truth, and people need to be told what they are getting, including all that is broken or missing.
The server browser speaks for itself, a copy sold clearly does not equal another player populating servers, if that where true your server browser would not be a ghost town right now, enough people certainly own a copy that we could fill the servers, but people do not wish to play it.

Then tell the truth that you are telling your opinion instead of acting like everyone here shares it. This isn't directed at you, Grobut.

Certainly, and i'd like to think i have been good at pointing out when i am talking opinion and when im talking fact, and we all should make thouse lines clear, but some things are absolutely objective, for instance, can anyone really argue the this server browser is as feature rich and user freindly as the old ones? thats pretty black and white isen't it? or the lack of bot setup and team options in instant action, could anyone really argue that this is as good as 2k4? no, again thats pretty black and white.

What can be argued is gameplay for instance, if you like the new feel or not, which is why i dont get into that when people ask if they should buy it, i'll tell them to play the Demo to see the feel and gameplay themselves, and point out that this is how it plays in retail also.
