The OP appears to be calling for anyone that doesn't like UT3 and voices their opinion about it to be banned??

No, it doesn't work like that. You may not like what they have to say, but unless they violate the rules, all you can do is grow a sack and ignore them.

In short.

GROW A SACK.

That's my phrase of the month btw ;)

The issue isn't that easy though River, since as was mentioned in this thread already those people tend to post in threads where newbies ask about UT3 and shoo them away. Which wouldn't be a problem if they'd state it as "it is my opinion that UT3 sucks", but rather "UT3 sucks period". People not used to the tone on BU are scared away by that and end up not buying the game...

Yeah there are some people who I wont name that I think should have been banned already, sure they might not be breaking the rules directly but the constant bombardment thread after thread gets alittle much.

Im all for people not liking the game and they are allowed to say so, it can be personal taste or they can state the exact reasons. How about I go around to every second thread and say, UT3 rocks even in the negative ones. Guess people wouldnt give two ****s so I dunno why I do about these negative ones, perhaps its because I actually enjoy the game.

Some people have been really good on the topic though, stating why they dont like it giving break downs or saying what could be added to fix things etc and not just throwing insults Epics way and at UTforums because they broke the rules and got banned. I really hope things look up from here!

And that's a reason to ban people because?

Technically, it's not of course :) It certainly is a reason to tell them to stop ruining the game for everybody else, because I guess some of them haven't realized yet that they do. Some did, in fact, and did stop, I noticed that even in the relatively short time I'm registered and active. People who continue in a non-constructive way are obviously trolls, and trolls should be banned IMHO.

It comes to a point that it becomes trolling and spam when every single one one of a person's postings in the BU UT3 forum is voicing your disdain with the game, especially when it is posted frequently and in several threads. I mean really, some people seem to go out of their way to bash a game or state their discontent. Posting in a couple of similar threads is one thing, but for virtually every post to be that way in numerous threads is simply spamming. IMO, it at least deserves a temp ban.

IMO we should leave jurisdiction of the RULES to the moderators instead of calling for percieved trolls to be banned.

I'd personally love to see everyone who defends scientology banned, because their views offend me, but guess what, I don't get that kind of a say.

They're allow to post what they like as long as they don't violate the rules, but ofcourse, I could start attributing random rule violatings like 'Spamming' to them, and then try and get them banned that way, but that would make me a dick.

Im just surprised they havent banned anyone yet over all this though, not even 1? All it takes is to make an example of one person and the rest should back off some.

Then again maybe my views are just so jaded so all I see is alot of trolls when in reality they are making constructive posts. Yeah thats it hey!

As you can see to the left, I got banned at Epic's forums by not even posting there. I got banned there for things I said here on BuF. I'd say BuF's method of handling things is a little better. :)

Oh wow... not that is just low. I was wondering why Mr. Morris was looking through so many peoples profiles here on BuF.
So is this limited to BuF? If I say something bad about Epic/UT3 on my blog do I get banned from the Epic boards? If tell some dude at a bar something negative about Epic/UT3 and someone from Epic overhears it, do I get the ban on the Epic boars? :D (obviously I'm dramatizing here... but you get the point)

I'd love to know which comment of yours got you the ban. :)

Of course, I agree with you entirely :) it's important that the admins know how the community feels about things anyway, so this thread isn't that bad either I think. In the end, some more love inside the UT3 community, from both sides (lovers and haters), can't hurt at all...

No. What's certainly happened here is a case of someone consistently flaming and trolling in regards to Epic.

I'm sure if you had a blog that had anti-Epic images all over it and flamed UT3 on a daily basis and they could find your account on their forums, you'd be banned as well. Guess what, we might even do that here (if it was bad enough, we've had at least one case ;p).

Of course, that might also be to put him on ignore, they seem to like doing that.

Infact, i can see that my profile has also had a prominent visitor.. wow, i guess i have been a cheeky little monkey

Maybe we should keep tabs on it, see how many people get Epic visits to their profiles, i doubt they look at thouse just to pass the time, so it'll likely make a good estimate of how many of us are in their little black book.

wow, lotta good points here :D

*As far as letting the mods control banning: I agree, the purpose of this thread isn't just to keep the 'trolls' out of the UT3 forum, but also to give all of us who are sick of it a place to vent a little with like-minded people.

*Ban from UT3 forum (i don't remember who posted it, but was saying i had a leet attitude for opening this thread): There is nothing leet about it, just common courtesy. If these people can't keep themselves under control and keep from trying to ruin things for everyone else, then maybe they need a bit of time to 'cool off'.

*Ignoring these folks is fine for those of us who already have and enjoy the game, but my issue arises when these ppl are turning new players away with their comments. It has happened numerous times already, and who knows how many more will down the road. THAT is what i'm trying to prevent, simply because I enjoy the game and would like more ppl to play with/against.

*We need more love in the forums (like was posted earlier), but it would be a lot easier to accomplish without party poopers running around spitting in our eyes, and turning away people at the door (which is ultimately my main issue).

*Every one of us have compaints about the game. That is fine, post it in a constructive manner, and try to be an adult when posting it. Be constructive! And even if you don't like the game, don't try and turn new players off of it. Also, if more of the posts were "I didn't like this game because...." I would not have a problem. Instead we get a ton of posts along the lines of "this game sux so bad, IMHO it is the worst game ever" and even more offensive things besides.

This is a dangerous assumption, the game has sold a great many copies on PC, granted, not as many as it could have, but still, quite a lot of people own it, and still, so very few people actually play it online.

There are many reasons for that, too many to list, but the bottom line is, people are not playing it because they do not want to play it.

And quite frankly, if i write about how i do not like this or that feature missing from the game, and reading that is enough for a lurker here to decided he wont buy the game, it would also have been enough for him to decided he would not wish to play it online even if he had bought it, instead, he would more likely sign up here and join the complaining.

This community will only grow on truth, and if people buy UT3 with low expectations instead of high ones, thats actually a good thing, it means less angry people in this community, and it probably means more people playing it online too, because they wont be left with a feeling of dissapointment every time they launch the game.

That may sound harsh, but it is the truth for a great many of us here.

Interesting theory ... maybe if the game was priced at $30 it would be flying off shelves and getting rave reviews from everyone including the gamers ...

Good luck getting Epic to drop the price and try that strategy though ... not when you are getting a full fledged Editor bundled with every copy. This is something other 97% of other games just don't give you and this is what makes UT3 such a great game ... being able to build the kind of "anything" that you want.

I don't think people should have low expectations ... just realistic ones and a lot of folks do. It was realistic to expect the UI to be closer in functionality to what it has been for the past 7 years, it was realistic to expect something more than a revamped ONS as the major star of the game, it was realistic to expect more character models with greater customization options, it was realistic to expect that the mutator and game rule settings would be saved, it was realistic to expect DX10 code that would allow Vista based systems to use FSAA like Gears PC, etc., etc. you get what I am saying. Basically though things are starting to progress well ... with the second patch Epic has really made substantial improvements to the game and all that the true hardcore addicts and lovers of this game want is for that to continue in earnest and at least get us closer to this being the amazing game we have waited 2 plus years for.

About the whole 'negativity turning away potential customers for epic' argument.
Why should this affect BuF?
We're not here to pimp their product. If someone asks about opinions on the game, then not only will they get the negative but also the positive.

We're not here for Epic's benefit. We're here to discuss their work (and occassionally share porn).
