It was suggested that I lend my brilliant analysis and witty repartee to this critical issue so...

... I don't give a fk about some coked-out college kid, who apparently thinks he's either a pirate, or Murdock, using his LiveJournal to unload his angst about global politics. Why a freaking LiveJournal is a topic of discussion is completely beyond my understanding. I mean, don't we have enough of these people here?

[/rant]

And we're egotistical? Yeesh.

Whilst I personally don't like LiveJournal, I don't ignore people's opinions that I happen to agree with (either partially or completely) just because of who they are. Hell, I've managed to agree with some (they make you look like Bill Clinton Worf, and that's no exaggeration) neo-conservatives on some issues, even though I would say I'm more of a leftie.

A guy walks into a bar and see's George Bush and Dick Cheney sitting down having a chat so he walks over to them to say hi.

Dick straight away says to him: "You there! listen to my plan for our next war: we're going to kill 10 million Arabs and one blonde with big tits."

"Why are you going to kill a blonde with big tits!?" exclaims the guy.

Dick to George: "See I told you no one would care about the arabs!"

That joke is so wrong on so many levels, but yet I still laughed.

My roadmap of democracy prediction is as follows:
Iran
Syria
Korea (remote chance)

Notice how Saudi Arabia is not on my, or GWB's list. That must be a safe, US friendly country, or they wouldn't still have no background check "quick visas" would they....

Afghanistan pretty much declared war on the U.S

I believe you're making the common mistake of confusing the Taliban for Afghanistan as a whole.

Afghanistan is a "nation" in name only in many ways, with a number of factions, groups and even individuals who control portions of what is merely a large area of land with a name on a map and imaginary lines for borders.

The Taliban were a very powerful organization in Afghanistan, but they were more like school bullies who controlled the area around them through fear. No matter how much power they might have over fellow students, if you were to pick a fight with the school bullies, you wouldn't claim you're fighting the school itself.

The Taliban didn't control all of Afghanistan, of course. Powerful warlords and other factions in the area did what they want with their own land regardless of what the Taliban wanted. Even today, despite an officially recognized Afghanistan government built by the US, there are large areas where the government has no say over.

So no, we did not declare war on the country of Afghanistan because there wasn't a real country to do so against. We declared war against the Taliban, and made heavy use of their competing factions and warlords to destroy them.

And since the US didn't recognize the Taliban as a legitimate governing body, you really can't at all say Afghanistan attacked us...

Aah that makes a lot of sense. I always thought the Taliban was the governament or atleast the spokesperson group for the majority of Afghanistan. I always found it kind of confusing anyways, the news media always claimed that the Taliban was the political group that had complete control over Afghanistan, they kind of gave you the simple version of what was really going on there.

Actually, we still lack an image macro with "MATT DAEMON" on it.

I feel so nostalgic.

All this thread needs to make it 2002 all over again is Hal and Prophetus calling me "unpatriotic" for saying that military action against Iraq was not justified by what I believed were inaccurate claims of vast amounts of WMDs when all the intelligence was considered. ;)
