DeathTouch, chill out dude. This is a relatively small community and most active players know eachother. I must admit, when you mentioned that some people would rather play inf on ut99 because of hardware issues, i found myself wondering who would say that too.
oh and, There is nothing passé about inf's gameplay. It's either you like it, or you don't. And i dont 'STILL like outdated graphics'. Like i say 'these textures are nice' all the time. Inf is what it is, a mod i like to play more than any other. Without photo-realistic textures, without so many new gfx features that new games have. The engine is old period.
The problem lies where newcomers play this game, find graphics and whatnot outdated because of it's age (understandable), then hang out and tell everybody they have to move on to bigger and better engines.
Zeepster,
I believe after playing games in which there are features such as Medics, Grenadiers, Heavy Gunners, ability to form/ join squads, player movement, weather effects, weapon movement,VOIP, Artillery, vehicles,Mortars, RPGs, AT4s, explosives,HUD Maps, lght sources, higher quality weapon and player models, animations, realistic looking skins and map objects, realistic particle effects, I find INF hard to enjoy.
I have played INF since it first was released. I got into it because at the time it was exactly what I was looking for. But after being impressed by other games I was finding it harder and harder to stay with it. So what I am saying in essence is that I am NOT a "newcomer" myself, I'm just a player that felt he had to move on, that's all. I NEVER discredited, ignored, or devalued ANYONE'S opinions about INF, I was in fact just stating my own, and those few who may not be so tolerant of change.
IMHO , INF is behind the times in comparison to other games, this is why to ME it is passe. Just my opinon, folks, no one is going to die here because of it. I DID like it, at one time, now, not so much.
INF has classic quality gameplay, however, for me it is just not as enjoyable anymore, ok?
That's all I am saying.
If you still like it, GREAT for you and everybody else. I am actually supporting you and everyone elses's decision despite the misunderstandings.
Again, I reiterate I am not a newcomer. BUT, I was very pleased and excited when SS announced they would move on to another engine.
My posts were meant to discuss and encourage this move. Sadly, it failed as SS stated they would no longer be focusing on the Source game they developed. When the announcement was made, I began suggesting an alternative to UT2004, why? Because I want to play INF again, in a better light, so to speak.
I also do not see anything inherently wrong with suggesting SS to move on to something else, not arbitrarily, but because there is more out there now, and that INF could be enjoyable to more players ans simply be "better". Since I am not one of these "newcomers" you speak about (I was a longtime "lurker" and player before finally registering with the Forum), I do not take offence , I actually agree that ill informed posts that condemn others and offer nothing substantial is never a good thing.
For me, I was just adding my voice, concern, and support for the move (it WAS decided by SS, NOT me, or anyone else here, you know?) to something more "featureful", for lack of a word.
Finally, I AM "chilled out". I just see no reason to take on any "tone" other than a frank, and truthful manner in my post wording.
Thanks,
Death Touch
