What is going on??

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

PR PR PR.
It doesn't exist for nothing. Things as news are very important. Even if it's just mere thoughts of developers, it really *works* if it's posted as news.
I think it makes the community 'live' with the game more. Feel more involved somehow.

I'd rather hear thoughts of SS than endless threads where people are assuming stuff.

Other than that, posting news or plans and the like give people reasons to frequently visit websiteS around the mod.

Ofcourse, this is all easy for me to say but imo it's just the way things click.

Again, what news should we present you? sub already posted a link to the 'news' that we have right now.
And that we did nothing within the past 7 months...
Maybe go out and make your own mod and present us each day with your news about what you guys have had for breakfast.

Fact is that we at first took a break after dealing with any post release issues you, the community, presented us. Many had their problems with how 2.9 is set up aso and many had to voice their opinion here on the forums or via email. So we had a lot to deal with for at least one month after the release if not even longer. Actually we still 'have to' deal with suggestions and whatnot from our community right now. So this is still part of 'our job'. Releasing mutators due to these requests presented here was done for months too and so we actually did a lot already.

After finally starting to get back from our little breaks (some took a longer one some came back pretty fast), we started to search for possible new engines and this took us pretty long simply based on the fact that not much was really released within the past months. Far Cry still has no SDK to check out but will have it released within this month hopefully and finally for example...

So, without an engine we definetly wanted to use, our 'progress' was slow of course. We have a game design, what stuff is handled how and everything, but not much visual content yet of course. This is mostly based on the engine and our mappers for example did some test maps on UT2k3/4 and some even tested out the Sandbox editor from FarCry a bit. But to produce 'real' content in form of maps and invest a bunch of time without knowing if the stuff will be even used later on is something noone wants to do actually and so we have 'only' a bunch of terrain test maps that were designed to be a possible testing base for our planned game modes.
The 3D sector was away for a bunch of months due to RL issues and new folks were searched and found that support us in this sector now too. They are doing base design work right now and there is nothing to really show off without blowing the 'surprise' of what we have in mind.
And programming without content is nothing that you really want to start with either. I have the stuff in my head and know how I plan to setup things, but before I get my hands on 'real' content I will not really invest time to script stuff on two or more possible engines. Understandable I guess.

So, we have done a lot of design descissions aso in the past months but we did not pump out stuff like other mod teams did and presented these things in their news showing off screenshots and whatnot without a single line of codes behind it yet. As said already, we ran short of 3D guys and so we simply do not have something to present even without any kind of codes to back things up.

And to present you guys our 'design' right now is nothing that we really want to do. Who knows if we encounter any problems with our design or find out that some things do not work out as planned. And to discuss game content here on the forums without the content even existing and so the community not able to check what we already have and whatnot first hand and without having a 'look' into our minds is pretty useless too. It would only result in endless discussions about stuff that everyone imagines in his own way due to interpretation differences or simply due to bad translations or understanding.

Saving Private Raptor you should ask some Aussie here on the board. Maybe someone is livening "close" to you that sending it by mail won't be that expensive. Raekwon and FunkStylz (I don't care to write their nicks correctly :D ) are livening in Australia, also Jaunty ;) ...

Those thoughts you have in your head; things like 'who-s in, who's out', What does SS think of this community map, or that weapon, etc etc.
This is stuff i like to know and read about. Needless to say, it's to your own discretion how much you want to share.

I guess you can say i am a 'fan' of the work you guys pulled of this far. So speaking from a typical fan-point-of-view , i would like to know much about this game and the team that produces it.

When i speak of news and pr, it's all the above. Not necessarily a specific point like what engine you're thinking of. Just a sense of involvement.

Not ment as nagging btw.

Even the team and beta-team member lists are outdated.

And what happened with the newly recruited guys?
Both lists are still somewhat in the process of being finalized. And the newly recruited guys have impressed the hell out of me.

Since when?;)
For quite some time now, does it really matter? If you look at the BT page, you'll notice one slight change as of late.

Nice, I'd like to be impressed, too - so why aren't there any news about them?
Didn't you read what Beppo posted earlier in this thread?

skipped my post... :shake: ...

As some may have already noticed and ere was trying to say too here and in the other thread... the member lists were updated.
They are not final cause I need to change a little bit after getting home from work later today, but what you see now is almost correct and shows the current dev and beta team. The new folks are listed there too.

Oh and at least one of the new guys that posts here on the forums had this info in his sig for weeks if not months already...

Why keep news on the main page? Just replace it with a link to the forums.

"had this info in his sig for weeks if not months already..."

Beppo, please tell me that was a joke... (I've got sigs disabled)

The problem is, even if you announce something in the forums, only a small number of people will read it because its only one of thousands of posts.
I read it, you read it, zeep read it ... there are many people browsing this forum. And what would it change if other people like Jaunty from OT would read this thread or what would it change if other people, only playing inf, would read this "news"?
Sorry, I was wrong. It would change something. People would have something to read about their favorite mod, they could read who (everyone is famous and a hero  ) is working on the mod atm who has left (traitors!) ..., simply they could spend their seemingly useless freetime on useless information imho.
As Beppo posted, Screens, or even information is worth nothing if it isn't backed up with code. The only thing you do is creating a "hype" in small scale for inf. And there was some kind of "hype" for 2.9 and that was a big mistake.
Let us wait for the bonus back, let us play 2.9 and let us hope that SS is perfecting - removing bugs ... - 2.9 before they start on a new engine so that we can still play and enjoy 2.9 if this is the case now.

Edit: Fine, there are other people disabling sigs too :)
