Epic has finally released the uncooked maps for the UT3 cinematics. The 140MB package contains all of the map files for the in-game cinematics, however some packages required to play them are missing, so they are best viewed in the editor.

  • Download from BeyondUnreal FileWorks (140MB ZIP)

I wonder if this will help with reviewers calling the cut-scenes, pre-rendered :p

the reason for this release is that mod-devs wanted real world examples of the cinematic features in UT3. To see how the stuff was done. Not because some asshats claim the cinematics in UT3 where not created in-game.

A menu option is needed that lets you enable ingame cinematics to be RENDERED ingame instead of just being played via a mediaplayer. Same for premade Gears cinematics :)

Patch v1.3 is in the works anyway, hopefully it will fix and add......?!

they are played via media player for saving time purposes,
they have been made with the unreal engine, then recorded in video files, then played,

if you dont do it this way, the cinematic has to be loaded as an entire map, so you would have to wait long annoying loading screens.
if you do it this way, the only time you have to wait, is the time your pc opens a video file. ( 3 seconds?)

Obviously, some guys are saying " this is pre rendered, so is not made with the unreal engine, the video could have been made directly with 3dsMAX", but i wouldnt care less about their opinions.

Those downloads has not been released to prove how wrong they are, their purpose is to help the mod comunity.

Darkdrium: sir_brizz must have any kind of divide function, or something, enabled on his brain.
If you enter him a int, his brain automatically divides it by 2, printing on the screen directly the result. :D

Oh please. Most games are running on engines far worse than UE3 yet they've accomplished realtime cutscenes. At least give us an OPTION to play them for real, that is all I meant. This videos look washed out at higher resolutions yet the game is a gem and has state of the art graphics? W00t! :(

yes, some other games have ingame cinematics, but the unreal tournament 3 are very laaarge ones, with lots of assests and custom places ( seen the attack of the city one?, that city is not even on the game) what would involve to load on memory the entire city map, just to unload it later,

when a cinematic is made on a game, and loads inmediatly, it is almost always a cinematic that only involves a couple words or movements on the characters, like, say... crysis cinematics, for example when they discover aztec´s corpse.

edit: DO NOT download the filefront ones, for some reason they are double the size that the rest ones, and when downloaded they doesnt work ( sir_brizz´s brain is perfect, the donwload is 140 mg)

at least they could have rendered it in 1920x1080 and much antialiasing (they didn't need to to it real-time, right?!). but now, it looks like the game looks on the XBOX360 :hmm:

Correct. Phases 2-4 of the Make Something Unreal contest have a Machinima category. Folks on the mod list requested these to see how we pulled of the cinematics in UT3.
