UT3 Expansion Wishlist

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

45 votes for maps ? That's like the last thing UT3 needs, plus we have a nice Unreal 3 Editor along with a few talented mappers that have created maps that rival Epics...On a side note, User Interface overhaul should include various fixes; as a result, User Interface/Fixes would probably be more suiting along with a few additions from the overhaul.

I'd say the two big ones are User Interface and game types, that would give UT3 a refresh. But do you really think Epic will go out of their way and separately redo the User Interface to foster the PC. I'm guessing this "expansion" will also be released to consoles, so making a version specifically for the PC seems unlikely unless this "expansion releases as a stand alone which I doubt.

Other companies like Codemasters, Ubisoft, Valve, Bioware, and yes even now Capcom, do a good job with their multiplatform games making sure the PC version interface and options are fit for a PC. Devil May Cry 4 was Capcom's turn around on porting console to pc if anyone wondered why I mentioned Capcom.

Make playing NEW maps online easier

UT3 should automatically inform players of new map availability via a community wide message. Then there should be an option to download and automatically install the new content in the correct directories. The content could be community controlled, but the download and install feature would need to be added via a new feature of some sort.

More online players would then want to play NEW maps.

Currently, when a new map is voted, if the player needs to DL the map, many simply leave. When they do stay ans DL, the match is usually over by the time they finish. The map sizes are large, 30-160 Meg in size. So, even if they DL, the default cache is too small to hold very many maps and the stale cache times is also short to hold them for long, so they need to keep DL the same map over and over.

This would also be good for those players who only play offline. I am thinking that most peeps who purchased this game and only play offline, likely have no idea that any custom maps even exist let alone can be downloaded and installed.

I agree with the post above. Instead of making the game more appealing to the offline crowd (insert random rant about the campaign here :p), the game should have come with some features to make offliners feel interested in online play, and make onliners feel interested in the community, which as we all know, is what makes UT awesome :D.
I'd love the expansion to come with some sort of in-game browser [and map installer/uninstaller!] to see screenshots and download links to user-made stuff. That is probably too much to ask for, and a rather useless feature for most of us since there's no trouble in coming to some site/forums to download a map... but every UT player should be aware that there's a community out there that makes cool stuff to keep the game alive, and most people won't ever know about that unless the community was included as a key game feature... :)

no thx. I'm an offliner and don't want the expansion to be trying to shove online play down my throat. But i HATED the campaign. I prefered ut99's style of single player. Just play every map against bot teams that increase in difficulty. That's all i've ever wanted from epic. The rest can come from you guys. Custom maps ftw.

No I don't think the game should 'force' you to play online if you do enjoy playing with bots. I am mainly an offliner too, given my betatester condition :p, but I wouldn't like the game as much as I do if I didn't know about user-made content... If the community supports the game, why does the game not support the community by featuring an easy way to install and uninstall custom stuff? If the community makes competitions and tourmaments, why doesn't the game provide a tournament ladder feature to organise them in an easy way, besides clan support and an IRC client? Those features, while they are mainly oriented to online play, they would aswell be enjoyed by offliners: You can download custom content to play it offline, and you can create your tournament ladders to play against bots... :) Multiplayer features should be oriented to the offline crowd once implemented, not the other way around like it was done with UT3's campaign... That's not considering offline players inferior, it's just what this game is about whether you play it online or offline: a comptetitive multiplayer shooter...

Rival? Epic maps could have been pretty to look at but most of them are crap gameplay wise. Most of the good maps played out there are coming from the community and especially from the two holp packs.

That said, more maps are always welcome, we never know if they are going to get at least one or two of them right, but that's not a priority in my eyes.

I also thought campaign was fv<king crap. A UT2K4 style tournament would have been great. It would need to have a WAR ladder of course.

I do not want to force anyone to play online. My point is that it would help online players play NEW custom maps. I do think this would also be good for those players who only play offline. Since GameSPY makes you log in anyway, having an op to DL NEW stuff adds to offline play with NEW maps, mutators, etc. There is nothing wrong or bad having more content available and automatic DL and instals would make it easy for all.

The thing is, if i understand you correctly, it would take a lot of work on the "official" end to keep up to date with all community maps, wouldn't it? And with so many community websites closing, the content seems more scattered, like there isn't so much of a centralized repository any more. Someone at Epic would have to keep track of and set up downloads for all the custom content. They have more important things to do, like provide post-release support for Gears of War 2.

agrees with sammael, oldkawman and G.Lecter wholeheartedly. But i cbf to quote you all. :p

Most offliners have no idea about custom content and the game doesn't last long with them. I'm in that rare category of gamer where i'm an offliner but LOVE to collect up custom content.

I think all my unreal games combined have about 48 GB's worth of custom stuff.

Ont he topic of ingame advertising for custom content.
I think epic could bring back a "cliffy b's ownage" type of thing. OR even better: hire BU to do it. BU is a community-run site geared towards the community. If anyone could pick out the best custom content it would be BU. If epic were to give BU control over the in-game custom-content advertising i think the game would last for a long time.

Think about it. Epic is a company that makes games. We can't expect them to hold the community together. BU on the other hand is all about community. Give BU the job of maintaining the in-game community section and epic can go and make more games with no loss of man-power.

It's never going to happen of course, but i still think that would be the most awsome and best solution.

Yes, exactly what I was thinking. I think it should be community controlled. EPIC just needs to build in a download custom content thing in the updated GUI. Then, communities that setup a repository of maps, mods, etc, would have it show up in the menu. EPIC would just need to add the download site to the list in the gui.

They can't normally do that, as evil people can put bad/crashing/unfinished/offending things in there. However, if every time you try and enter that page you would get a HUGE WARNING about the fact that these things are NOT SUPPORTED or even NOT AFFILIATED with Epic, and also with a recommendation on which repositories are more trusted, and maybe also even with something like GPG keys, they could do something like that to some extent.

I voted UI for all its missing options/features.

I miss being able to adjust variable game speed. I dont like having a cheezed fixed mutator for game speed. This can't be UT without a variable game speed!!!!!!!!

I also miss being able to configure nodes like on Ons where you can save presets of your preferanced linked nodes. You really can change the dynamics of a map by just this simple feature. I wish we can do this with War:(

User interface with the addition of new announcer voices. Classic, UT2004, Cyborg, anything. Sick to death of hearing the female announcer, I don't get why Epic chose to only have one announcer voice available. Lazy.

It's like they thought the engine itself is so amazing that they forget to put in all the good stuff we like to fiddle around with.
