ut2k4 startup problem

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

It said: Windows will now check the disk.
Cleaning up minor inconsistencies on the drive.
Cleaning up 970 unused index entries.
Cleaning up 970 unused security descriptions.
Usn verification completed.

4096 bytes in each allocation unit.
30013428 total allocation units on disk.
9226702 allocation units available on disk.

The internal Info was basically gibberish. Any way, any options apart from reinstalling the OS? Also I tried installing .NET 2.0 but it said installer could not continue: this version of the .NET Framework is incompatible with a previously installed one. Where is the configuration tool for it?
Does your computer have a restore drive or did it come with a restore CD?

Wow, that's a whole lot of the entries and descriptions. At this point, if nothing changed, I believe that reinstalling the OS is in order. Well, the offending partition, anyway, but since it stores the OS, you are forced to reinstall it as well.
And it could probably help if you ran a few tests on your hard drive after you reinstall it, you can never be too careful with that.

I have just reinstalled ut2004, and that fixed the CD code. But the patch hasn't done anything. It now says: OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
CPU: AuthenticAMD PentiumPro-class processor @ 1679 MHz with 479MB RAM
Video: No Video

General protection fault!

History: CheckTag <- LoadSummary <- ULinkerLoad::ULinkerLoad <- UExporter::FindExporter <- UExporter::ExportToOutputDevice <- UObject::ExportProperties <- (i_bkChar) <- UClass::Serialize <- (Class GUI2K4.UT2k4MainMenu) <- LoadObject <- (Class GUI2K4.UT2k4MainMenu 205505==205505/2343952 204290 1215) <- ULinkerLoad::preload <- PreLoadObjects <- UObject::EndLoad <- UObject::StaticLoadObject <- (Core.Class GUI2K4.UT2K4MainMenu NULL) <- UObject::processEvent <- (CinematicPlayer NvidiaLogo.CinematicPlayer, Function UnrealGame.CinematicPlayer.Fire) <- UObject::ScriptConsoleExec <- (CinematicPlayer NvidiaLogo.CinematicPlayer) <- UPlayer::Exec <- UViewport::Exec <- UWindowsViewport::Exec <- UInput::ExecInputCommands <- ExecAlias <- UInput::Exec <- UViewport::Exec <- UWindowsViewport::Exec <- UInput::ExecInputCommands <- UInput::process <- UEngine::InputEvent <- UWindowsViewport::CauseInputEvent <- UWindowsViewport::UpdateInput <- UViewport::ReadInput <- APlayerController::Tick <- TickAllActors <- ULevel::Tick <- (NetMode=0) <- TickLevel <- UGameEngine::Tick <- Level Untitled <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop

My main concern is the fact that it says Video: No video, and (Core.Class GUI2K4.UT2K4MainMenu NULL)

Again, this is some kind of a loading error, probably because of a missing file. No video part is nothing to worry about, because it just crashes sooner than it can detect your video card. Also, the UT2004.log tail would be useful.

Right after I installed it? You're saying in 10 seconds an important file disappeared?
What about Core.Class GUI2K4.UT2K4MainMenu NULL?

No, I think it has to do with a file in your system that disappeared, not the game itself... And I can't tell you about that unless you give me the tail of your log.

I found out that the problem lies in the maps. I deleted some that I knew weren't working. It all works now!

Wait, the official maps should work for everyone. Are you talking about faulty custom maps?
