ut2k4 startup problem

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I tried to install it but now it says: This application has failed to start because Core.dll was not found.

My computer won't allow regfix to work properly so I tried to uninstall it. It said Critical Error:C:\Docume~1\Jeremy~1\Locals~1\Temp\setup.exe
I followed the file path and it wasn't there!

The regfix requires .NET 2.0. What OS are you using, anyway?

Sounds like there's more wrong than UT2004.

I have to agree with that. Random files disappearing = bad. I suggest a virus scan, chkdsk scan and/or reinstallation of the OS at this point...

Got it working but my computer won't allow it to do anything saying Application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by security policy. To grant this application the required permission, contact your system administrator (which is me by the way!), or use the Microsoft .NET Framework Configuration tool. What is this tool, where would it be, and what does it do???

Operating system.
Also, to run actual checkdisk, go to Accessories -> Command Prompt, then enter chkdsk C: /B (if you're using NTFS, which is probably what you're using) and it will ask you to restart. Accept, then restart and wait a few hours for it to finish. Then repeat for other partitions, if you have any.

If that disappeared as well, then you have even more problems... But then try going to Start -> Run... and entering cmd - it should launch the command prompt for you.

I don't know where it is, but you don't need it to run it... You only need the actual .NET 2.0 Framework. You can get it off Windows Update, in the Optional Updates (you have to choose not to use the express version or it won't list the optional updates).

It should offer you 2.0 and 2.1, not 4... Then again, I haven't used XP for ages. Anyway, like I've said, running checkdisk is more important than .NET, since you seem to have larger issues there.

I think you should just do another clean install of your OS. It looks like your computer is all screwed up now.

And what were the results? If you can't remember, you will have to do this:

Go to >
Start > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer

click "Application" on the left

In column "Source" on the right half of the window, look for "Winlogon".
On the same row, "Event" matching 1001 is the que pasa on chkdsk.

Doubleclick that line matching both Winlogon and 1001.

It said: Windows will now check the disk.
Cleaning up minor inconsistencies on the drive.
Cleaning up 970 unused index entries.
Cleaning up 970 unused security descriptions.
Usn verification completed.

4096 bytes in each allocation unit.
30013428 total allocation units on disk.
9226702 allocation units available on disk.

The internal Info was basically gibberish. Any way, any options apart from reinstalling the OS? Also I tried installing .NET 2.0 but it said installer could not continue: this version of the .NET Framework is incompatible with a previously installed one. Where is the configuration tool for it?
