$5 says that your INIs are read only.

You owe me $5 Brizz, under my documents /nothing/ is read-only, and I've gone ahead and unchecked the read-only attribute on all .ini files in the main game folder aswell, nothing makes a single bit of difference.

I've just done a clean install and patch, the only settings that stay in memory at all are map settings and mutators... Ironically the one thing I always wanted fixed is now the only one that works.

Odd that out of the hundreds of thousands of people who own this game there are only a few people who have this problem.

Sorry, it's got to be a setting on your computer. How can Epic control how your computer is set up? Read only INIs are the most common reason this happens, but it could be thousands of other things too. Do you have some kind of firewall program running? Some crap that would protect files in My Documents from being edited?

Epic fixed the offline settings saving with v1.1 as it was broken out of the box, and since has always worked apart from no mutator/map settings saving, but since installing 2.0 the mutator/map settings are fixed, but the game config settings are broken all over again. Nothing else on my system has changed so it can't be a problem with my documents folder, it has to be something that's changed in the patch. I can reinstall with 1.3 and all my configs will save again. The only security soft i've got active is AntiVir and Sygate Personal Firewall and I'm running bog standard WinXP Pro SP2.

Only other info I can think to give is that 'my documents' is on my H Drive and not C, and also that I am trying to get the offline settings to save exclusively, I am not using an online profile of any sort.

Edit: I completely disabled my firewall, nothing happened. I've even tried making a manual edit to the ini in my documents, changing mouse sensitivity and then setting it read only, and it still gives me the default value.

You're running the game with no command line options? Have you tried moving your INIs somewhere else and letting the game regenerate them?

This is most likely your problem. Nothing is saved when using offline mode with no profile, to my knowledge, not even campaign progress. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. I thought it has always been this way.

In 1.1 through 1.3 I could always save campaign progress, player model, keybinds, mouse settings, sound and PP settings and I had never gone online. Offline play not saving settings was clearly listed in the early patch fixes.

Actually Dark Pulse is wrong.

Actually, this is one of the rare few cases where Dark Pulse is RIGHT!
Steelkiller, stop smacktalking moderators and get over yourself.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying a snazzy 1.1MB/s speed on Steam. Good times! :D

I am having that "every ini options gets blasted everytime you start up the game" trouble as well since applying the patch 2.0 (now with 2.1 too)... it's definitely not a read-only problem. Note that it worked perfectly before patch 2.0.
Actually it seems that the game overwrites my previous inis everytime the game starts. If I manually set the binds in the inis and make the file read-only, they are kept in-game.
The options that I noticed getting blasted are the ones relative to the HUD and the key bindings.
Unfortunately I am used to a strange key layout (arrows + numpad numbers to change weapons) so I have to change them everytime I want to play properly...
On a side note, applying patch 2.0 (and now 2.1) also toasted my in-editor game crosshair... it doesn't show up anymore. Now for me it's not a big hassle (I don't use the crosshair much, and that's probably why my aim sucks with hitscan thinking about it... :p) but it's not very pleasant.

Of course I tried deleting the inis letting the game recreate them, to no effect.

Since I formatted my PC I have never went online with UT 3 so I have yet to access to any profile data, I will try going online now to see if it changes something for the ini toasting.

I'm having problems with the settings aswell.

There are five things that never get saved.

Post processing volume setting always gets reset to default
Arrows always gets turned back on
Instant Action settings STILL don't save
My character always gets reset to some weird ass random character with a ton of black parts
My key binds are reseting

The instant action one has always been there, but the other four are new since 2.1.

Going online once (accessing your profile) stops the ini resetting every time. I tried starting up UT 3 two times online and two times offline and the settings are still there.
I have yet to check if the achievements get saved (before solving the ini resetting, they didn't), but I guess that they do now.

I'm happy that a solution has been found, but the patches from 1.1 to 1.3 didn't require accessing the profile once to save the settings (1.0 did, and that was one of the fixes 1.1 had). Now this doesn't bother me much, but it might bother slightly more those without an internet connection. I would like to see this fixed in the next patches...

The crosshair disappearing in the in-editor game still isn't fixed, I will try messing up with the inis to see if something is out of place (although if that was the case deleting all the inis should have fixed that up).

One bug that is still there is that the game keeps asking the CD-Key if you start the game offline, close it and then start it online (and vice-versa). Has been there since 1.0, won't get fixed I guess...

Aside from that, I haven't found any other major bug (except maybe the bots having insane aim with the link beam at the higher skill levels :B).
The game is definitely better than what it was at 1.0, so thanks to Epic for the patches :)

I want to know there's a solution that doesn't require going online, I shouldn't have to have to worry about having internet access just to play the game properly how I wish to, I'm offended by the concept of forced online where it's not necessary, and I hope this is a screw-up Epic will fix and not some ulterior motive.

XYZ8000, do you know if I was to go online to fix my ini saving, could I backup that profile and restore it without requiring the internet again if I had to reinstall?

You shouldn't move special Windows directories to different partitions. This is a known issue with MS Windows. I think MS finally fixed it in Vista (not sure, haven't test it). It's not a specific issue with UE3, a lot of programs, even MS programs have problems with having special directories on drivers other than C.

I never liked this weird "drives" thingy in DOS/Windows.

Maybe so, but moving "My Documents" is a feature that's built into Windows Explorer (right-click on it and select "Properties").

That said, I've never had a problem with "My Documents" being a folder on my D drive. Nowadays it's even on E, with all programs on D (thanks, nLite) and just Windows and the temp folder on C, and I still don't have any problems with that layout...

Profile seems stored in the SaveData folder, maybe backup-ing this would be enough

This patch didn't bring fixes I expected it to and I liked the doubleclick in the menu....

Make things optinal at least and don't force it down on players throat, that counts for many things about previous patch as well, as the flag is invisible from player view, the new weapons respawning method, it all should be optional, plus I don't see still fixes for the stuck link gun beam sound, doubled movers or what it is in carbonfire..
as I said here:
http://forums.beyondunreal.com/showthread.php?t=184123

I don't want to sound harsh here, but why was here even delay from beta 3 if there is no change at all?

russian localization, titan, low gore...then removed a problem that there wasn't originally (bot counts on server browser).
Best thing they fixed is the double clicking on the main menu.

TBH i don't see anything that makes this patch worth downloading.
And we still have no Anticheat, the "press fire to start" bug, voices of characters are messed up, the messages in the consoles are still crazy (why when a player enters a match it says "XYZ left the game-XYZ entered the game", etc.), the text to speech doesn't work like in UT2004, we still have terrible collision problems with the feign death, we can't read messages ingame, we don't have a friends tab in the server browser, in the server browser we can't specify a ping range, and the ping showed in the server browser has nothing to do with the real one.

I agree, but...there is friend list somewhere else though (although you must go through a long process of confirmation etc) and you can read messages ingame....
And that left the game enter game, I don't know what do you mean, but mind you UT3 works differently, I mean if you are downloading map off the server you can still chat with players etc.

What's the way to fix the constant Key Request appearance? It's driving me nuts.

It didn't request it for me....

Anyway I really don't like the simple click, with double click you can highlight it first with single one and there is no room for mistakes.....GIVE THAT BACK or make it optional...sigh.
If I want to use single click i use enter and arrows on the menu item.....and there still should be fixed better keyboard support at some phases of the menu so you can navigate only through arrows.

OPTIONAL...that is the key word and that is why I am beginning to dislike this game more....please is it that hard to understand or hard to make it optional? That way you can please both majority of the players who go "hoooray" for the menu change and the others who liked it the old way....
Really....unlike old UT3 versions even if i move with mouse over these menu items it doesnt highlight them and thats annoying when there is no doubleclick now....and I hate waiting to load some other menu I did not want to click into...

These points really should be considered....
