Ok folks, the patch is up and can be downloaded in the download section: http://www.oldunreal.com/oldunrealpatches.html

If you are interested in the new features, such as AlphaBlending, StaticMeshes, ShadowProjectors etc. have a look into the relase notes:
http://www.oldunreal.com/wiki/index.php?title=227_release_notes#.5B05.04.2011.5D_227g_release

Overall it contains over 400 fixes and additions compared to the old versions and a lot of work has been invested into UED2.1 development. So the most annoying bugs should be gone now, its more stable and has a lot of new nice features.
Details about UED2.1 are here:http://www.oldunreal.com/wiki/index.php?title=UED2.1_Release_Notes

Remember, we put a hell a lot of work in it and although all involved people gave their best and the relative small number of testers was increased compared to 227f, it's still quite impossible to test any setup or configuration with our small crew.
it will have to show now if we missed something ;)

The 227g patch is now available for both Unreal (Classic) and Unreal Gold / Anthology with full Return to Napali (RTNP/UPak) support.

There is a new complete Russian translation which is included in the patch. Also the Linux version works now with unicode and enables to use the different charsets for the included translations.

I hope for good results and if there is something bothering you, report it in the 227 section: http://www.oldunreal.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=227

As previous releases 227g is not (net)compatible with older 227 versions (such as 227e, 227f etc.) to keep the best compatibility to the old original versions 224,225,UGold and to provide the best stability. Also a couple of security issues have been found and fixed so using 227f becomes of now deprecated.

227g re-unites the different Unreal versions, once applied its finally possible to play with Unreal, Unreal Gold and Unreal Anthology in one server, removing the old compatibility issues we had to suffer, caused by the publishers of these versions who were entirely disregarding net compatibility.
The patch can be applied to the Steam versions also and is fully working, but I have no idea how Steam is handling this version then. Reports are welcome.

Server admins who are running 227f should update because of that soon.

When updating you should be aware that this is a full installer again and if you want to keep your old ini settings you need to backup your ini files and update them manually (Unreal.ini and User.ini are being replaced due to new settings).

Also due to the new cache handling (cache search is improved) it is recommended to empty your cache folder if you run into troubles after installation, or at least ensure that there are no System files in the cache like UPak.u if you run Unreal Gold or Anthology.

Have fun!

PS: Be careful with the realtime shadows, they can drain a LOT of performance, even on nowadays machines.

I played the game for a few minutes and it's hard to tell all of the fixes that were made. However, it runs great, RTNP works, 227 is pretty much the best of all worlds of Unreal patches. I wonder what the possibility of getting Epic to put it on the Unreal version on Steam?

I think if EPIC accepts it as official a whole new release would be needed, otherwise only DL for now. Let the testing continue and find any more buggers, I will nab it and run it thruout all its phases and find out any issues. try to make it break.

Hyper or Anyone,

I don't have installed either Unreal Gold or Unreal Anthology. I only have Unreal Mission Pack I (Return to Na Pali) installed, along with the original Unreal.

The download section has the Installer for Unreal versions with Return to Napali (Unreal Gold and Unreal Anthology) listed. Can I download and install this file for what I have?

Thanks,

Freddie

Great, I've really been waiting for this release for a long time! :D

Hopefully the Linux version fixes the audio issues running in Ubuntu, and I'm looking forward to seeing the graphical improvements as well. :)

Basically Unreal + RTNP == UGold, so no problem to install the Gold patch :)

It offers quite a lot more options to configure it, such as the choice between ALSA or OSS and its specific devices (as well as a special probing function) and it's still a bit messing around until everything works on some systems (or rather soundcards.) but it should be working. :)

Hi,

I downloaded the installer for Unreal versions with Return to Napali (Unreal Gold and Unreal Anthology) .zip file. See my post, just above.

It won't install when I run it. I get a window that shows (correctly) the location of the Unreal folder. I should click on Next if correct. When I click on Next, I get the following message:

"This update requires Unreal to be installed in the folder first. Please locate the existing folder for Unreal, or exit and install it now."

It then says, "You can click on the web link below for product information."

OK, it won't install. I'm in an endless loop. My unreal is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Unreal. The installer show that location correctly. I'm running Win7 64 bit.

Help!

Wormbo,

Well that's a bummer. I installed Unreal and Na Pali in the default Windows 7 locations. Those locations contain spaces by default. An installer should take that fact into account. Why not?

I won't be installing Patch 227g anytime soon. In Unreal, I have installed about 40 custom maps packs and all the hi level textures currently available. That accomplishment took a lot of time and effort, what with all the adjustments and tweaks that go along with such an effort. I don't feel up to doing all that over again anytime soon.

Freddie, just move the folder to C:\Unreal. You will lose absolutely nothing, because Unreal does not depend on the registry. The worst thing that could happen is that you won't be able to use the uninstall shortcut from Add/Remove programs.

GreatEmerald,

Well, hot dog! I didn't know one could just move Unreal folders with no adverse consequences. Great!

Freddie

Later Edit: OK, I moved (actually copied) both Unreal and Na Pali to C:\Games. Now, I have a question: Can I use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to remove both games from their former lodation in Program Files?

I'm asking because I don't know whether doing so will also delete some file or files (like in Windows\System) needed by the games. I copied the games, rather than moving them, because I wanted a backup in case the games didn't work from their new locations.

Or, should I simply remove the games manually from their former locations?

Another Later Edit: The Patch 227g still won't install after moving both Unreal and Na Pali to C:\Games\Unreal and C:\Games\NaPali. I get the same message I got when they were installed in Program Files (see my prior post).

Also, the installer still sees the games as installed in Program Files, although I changed the names to UnrealOld and NaPaliOld. Changing the path in the installer doesn't do anything. It defaults to C:\Program Files (x86)\Unreal, after changing it to C:\Games\Unreal. Go figure. Anyone?

OK, I probably won't be playing online and I have Unreal Gold for Unreal Anthology, but it would be nice to install this 227g patch eventually. I was thinking maybe after I finish Unreal and RTNP (if I can pull myself away from UT/UT2004/UT3 that is) just in case anything goes wrong when saving INI files, etc. Are you telling me that all subdirectories must not have any spaces for this patch to install, really?

Unreal doesn't install anything into Windows at all. It's perfectly independent. You don't even need to reinstall it, ever, you can just copy the game from your old installation. Or put Unreal on a USB key. Heck, you can even put it on a DVD!

Hmm, I think that the problem you're having here is that you need to point to C:\Games\Unreal\System instead of just C:\Games\Unreal. Could work with spaces too, I guess, but at least the Unreal Editor and co don't like those.

I had problems with the installer as well, it refused to install unless i overwrote my initial unrealgold directory, go figure.

Anyway there are still some new bugs as it was mentioned. (I also got some kind of wallhack working randomly, lol)
And rtnp has some inconsistences too, like the marines spawn all on the other side of the ship and not like at gold and they also use the We're the good guys taunts, which were meant to be used for cutscenes only and were not in the crashsitegame. It makes them look like retards that way lol. I would also like for the unrealgold glammo model to return but the skin properly aligned, the glammo model was more detailed in the 226, as it had modeled greande instead of it being just on the skin, only the skin was unaligned but since i saw it fixed in turboman's firestorm years back it makes me want to see that also.

GreatEmerald,

I copied the Patch to C:\Games and ran it. It didn't install.

I copied it to C:\Games\Unreal and ran it. It didn't install.

I copied it to C:\Games\Unreal\System and ran it. It didn't install

Those results are the same as those I had from running the installer from C:\Temp. I downloaded the patch to that Temp folder.

The path in the installer always reverts to C:\Program Files (x86)\Unreal, even when I change it to C:\Games\Unreal or to C:\Games\Unreal\System. The change won't take!

I even redownloaded the Patch and ran it. It, too, automatically defaulted to a path of C:\Program Files (x86)\Unreal, just like the first download. It won't accept any other path.

It must be picking up that path from somewhere, but I don't know from where. Could it be from Registry? I have no idea what's going on.

Leo (T.C.K.) said that he had to overwrite his original unrealgold directory. What did he mean by that? Overwrite it with what?
