I think the original feel of Unreal can never be repeated, not even in the slightest. As much as I'd want to see the old environments being remade with the current technology, it just wouldn't be the same gameplay-wise. How could it.

Of course it will never have the atmosphere of the original Unreal, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's not going to be a worthy sequel.

I'm just hoping there will be a new Unreal at all. for the pc.

I agree with Razorjack here. As long as the game is modable, has co-op out of the box and has interesting story with sci-fi and alien weapons, it will work.

Well, it is possible to make an Unreal III that is comparable with Unreal. And i give an example outside Unreal.

Back in the eighties i already was a super science fiction fan, and i really like Battlestar Gallactica. And the serie that came after that, i loved to watch it. The second serie was horrible, they were on earth riding around on motorbikes that sounded like a vacumecleaner  people all of a sudden could fly   so it was bad alright.

But now the new series, wow do they rock. Its the same story, with the same characters, the same ideas, but its not and it is. The storyline rocks, and they made some awsome twists in it, the music rocks, the graphics rock, the characters are totally messed up weirdos. Frankly i think its one of the best series ever. And its certainly the best redo ever, and i doubt that any eighties fan will think otherwise.

So yeah, i think its possible to do the same and have the same atmosphere and idea improoved. It just depends on good stories and imagination of the writers. If anything, than something like the new Battlestar Gallactica prooves it.

I remember watching the old galactica back in 80s. I was too young by the time it got released, so it must've been reruns in 83-85 or so. Probably been twenty years I've seen any episode from that old show.

But the new galactica is so much better. I've just started watching it (at season 1, epis 1 called "33" which was excellent. Not to mention the quality of the mini series). Heck, it's a vast improvement. If there would ever be an unreal III, it should indeed be close to this type of "revisiting."

What I meant with my earlier comment is that I know some people are still hoping for a rerun of the original unreal, but with up to date graphics. That's not going to happen, right.

That will do. And I wouldn't mind the "sole survivor" routine again. Ok, perhaps a few stray wanderers who might be willing to fight alongside you or...

Well, that's old technology anyway. The nali helpers were quite annoying, but I think the team tried their best with it...(?)
After all these years you'd automatically expect decent AI helpers, right.

In all honesty, the feeling of being completely abandoned worked/works fine in Unreal. But at times I really wanted to run into a survivor, albeit on the edge of his/her life (someone repairing his/her ship or so.. just making up stuff) Maybe sharing some vital information, or just messing with you and putting you on the wrong track. For you to decide how to handle this...

I'd want a huge, open world again. Secluded environments such as the rrajigar mines are ok, but I wouldn't want it to dominate an unreal game.

I just thought that GoW was such a departure from what I personally was used to from Epic Games. And not owning an Xbox I can't say how much I feel Gears was worth it.

Unreal was a landmark game in many respects- graphics, AI etc. I know it would be hard to repeat the same fantastic success they had back in 1998. But it could be done. It could be the first game to use virtual reality. Now that could be cool.

No, I'm rambling. Sorry.

I want an Unreal 3 Fallout style (meaning only: great open-ended world for more exploration, exploration and exploration).
As long as there's also a Skaarj Mothership, I'll be totally happy.
