My favourite bands are Mudvayne (also tech metal, but a bit heavier) and Iron Maiden, for obvious reasons.
Mudvayne used to be nu-metal, not tech metal. Granted, they were the only nu-metal band with some skill, and thus could pull off some strange time signatures, but they were still nu-metal through and through. Now they're just stupid crap emo rock, as seen here.

meh, if bands were to stick w/ descriptive name calling Mudvayne would have been "This guy plays bass and we follow along" ;)

Metallica = "Our fans still want Cliff back"
Guns 'N' Roses = "Axl f'ked up"
Rammstein = "You guys remember 'Du Hast,' right?"
Marilyn Manson = "I got new contacts, time to write an album"
Nine Inch Nails = "My girlfriend left me, time to write an album"
Linkin Park = "My girlfriend left me, time to write an album"
Staind = "My girlfriend left me, time to write an album"

Repeat last line for other numetal as applicable.

(Sorry Trent, but it's true)

I don't think mudvayne is nu-metal. For starters, it doesn't suck imo like nu-metal does. They don't try to rap either.

Have you listened to Dig? Or perhaps whatever that 14th song is called where he says something about a hurricane and novocaine. They try to rap. Not a lot, but they do it. It's nu-metal (was, anyway). I don't even know any of the song on their recent album because it sucked so much, but there's probably more instances of it on there as well. Give it up. :D

Under My Skin? Every Mudvayne fan hates that song. Dig, I will agree is rapping, but that just so happens to be a tour fave of the fans. You are however entitled to your opinion, but they have a new album out on April 11th, so I am waiting for that.

I'm not. They are no longer metal, but radio-friendly hard rock forced to sound that way by their record label. Doesn't surprise me, though; their record label is also home to Good Charlotte and Jennifer Lopez.

What a waste of a good bassist.

One really can't "try to rap". He's either doing it, or he isn't.

To rap used in a musical context is purely slang anyways, and can mean many things. It's slang meaning is still based on the original meaning of the word, which implies rappidity. Making that assessment from how fast the lyrics are presented in Dig, then it could be your opinion that he "is rapping". Since in my opinion, rapping as a musical genre is simply in refernce to how it's focus is lyrics, I don't share that opinion, because the focus of Dig in my eyes is equally split between music and vocals, to the point where the vocals are really to be looked at as another instrument.

I also really hope your not denouncing your opinion of what genre they fit in based on a couple slow radio singles. Happy is as nu-metal as it gets. My favorite tracks of the first two albums happen to be Death Blooms, and Shadow of a Man respectively, but I don't dislike any song off of either album including Under My Skin. I've also never been dissapointed with the amount of "hard tracks" or consistancy of musical feel on either of their albums. Getting a record deal sometimes can involve contracts that force you too stay on a label that you may not like so much... or don't fit into. They are only on record 3.
