They are not made USELESS really.. it depends on the nades location. They have to be at your feet. If you're in behind view and toss a nade 10 feet in front of you, you will still get the effects in full force. It has something to do with the fact that the grenade is under your model, therefore out of "view" of the camera in third person so it doesn't register it as hitting your FOV. At least, that's my assumption anyways. Either way though, behindview doesn't negate the effects completely.. only when used properly and you STILL get a slight ring and small white flash for a second.

OMG i feel stupid... we can actually use behindview? I thought it was turned off by default.

Im most online multiplayer FPS games a behindview is considered to be cheating because one can see more then someone who isnt in that view.
I guess the best reason i've seen is that one can look around corners without actually exposing yourself to fire.

For that reasons i dont FANCY behindview... but no... i cant really say its cheating.

Just to get this straight... behind view works in the matches you do? Its not disabled? Pub XMP servers have behindview available for the players?

And uuh... dont tell me you cant cjump without a behind view! AND DONT TELL me that, you the elite player, cant hit anything when you are on fire or in a smoke screen! Just FRIGGIN press the fire button and GUESS where the enemy goes/wants to go (i know u gonna have to use ur brain now :p).

ICQ.. the servers have the option to disable it I believe. Not sure on the match rules regarding it though, I never read anywhere where this was addressed. It's a command in the game, the view in itself isn't a cheat. It was put there in the game for our use. It's the fact that there is a bug with it related to concussion grenades/jumping. In tactical realistic games such as Raven-Shield or FarCry I can see the effects of a third person view being used to an unfair advantage, but in a game like XMP - who's gameplay is MUCH MUCH MUCH faster and not as "I shot you in the pinky so now you're dead" - esque.. it matters like.. nill. Sometimes I run around in third person view just to see how I look when I dodge.. see where I need work and how fast I move and dodge compared to the players I see and make me think "wow, their movement is good!"

Again, yes sorry, I believe it was off by default (and thus most servers it cant be used on) so that why i wonder "is it used?".

Do the server admins go edit/add in their ucc.ini (or whatever they call it) to deliberately enable this feature? Im quite sure 'the game/engine' disables this feature by default... at least that was the case with the beta and the demo...

And yeah Mantik... i think ur soooo right... (farcry/rs/xmp) the gameplay in XMP is like almost '2fast' to put it to any real use.

A bit like you said:
"u wont see someone (some clan) win a match cause they use behindview."

from the read me 4.3 First-person / Third-person
-------------------------------

Although U2XMP was designed to be a fully immersive first-person experience,
we know that some players prefer to use a third-person perspective for
piloting vehicles, and other things.

To switch between first- and third-person mode for vehicles, hit the tilde
key (~) to bring up the console, and type "TOGGLEVEHICLEVIEW". Alternatively,
you can bind a key to this command by bringing up the console and typing
"SET INPUT X TOGGLEVEHICLEVIEW", where X is the key you wish to use for
switching views.

You can also use third-person mode when not in a vehicle, although this will
put you at a severe disadvantage in combat. The command for this is
"TOGGLEBEHINDVIEW".

umm F11? Thought that was default to change vehicle third person. Once you have done it once it changes a line in your .ini so only has to be done once.

People actually use 1st person vehicle view

it's ON by default, you don't have to do anything as an admin.

its a cheat in my book, only reason its there, is because we didn't notice it when we originally did the beta :(

All of the camera views(the ones you can use spectating) were removed during the beta because of exploits similar to this. Togglebehind even ended up in the help.txt(or similar name), only because the current abuse of it wasn't found then. You actually almost cross a map CJ'ing using toggle behind view.. CJ'ing was intended in the game, being able to clear a map width wasn't. That being said, it's not getting fixed folks. :( I've embraced the dark side and use it occassionally. I would rather have it patched out, though we know that isn't going to happen.

Erm you can't really "cross a map" anymore, you go up soo much ..furthest i get with it is maybe .. 100-120 feet? but tripmining that'll get you 200-400 feet o_o (depending on x and y directions ..)
