...standing behind you...
Claw and Frostblood, I do agree. Sometimes parents can be hypocrites. They'll rather bombard an authoritative figure (such as BU) with complaints just to feel like they are superior and have control of their offspring. Personally, I can't stand parents like that.

I'm a parent myself. Although I cuss like a no limit h0, I don't (at least try not to) cuss in front of my children. I know that kids will learn these words in school; however, I wouldn't like it if they said those words around me. If you are not a parent, then you will never understand.

Since most parents have to work, teaching their children right from wrong is nearly impossible. Most parents aren't home enough and cannot spend that quality time with their kids. Parents know their children will learn from others. But they would like to feel the security of knowing such places, as BU, will not purposely groom their kids into becoming disrespectful individuals of society. So, I do understand them when it comes to our responsibility. Yet, I don't like how they may present their arguements...but that's just me.

Anyways, we are creatures of habit. If you supplement swear words for intelligent words of expression, then you will slip at the wrong time. It's all about control.

Historically, members have abused these words and caused many members to leave or not join. Although, you all may feel the need to express yourselves in that manner, others do not want to read it. Yes, these types have low tolerance for such language, but they have just as many rights to post and read without feeling disgusted. Ironically, people are more disgusted at reading swear words than seeing a pic of a pretty woman as your avatar;). Now, it's about courtesy.

Seriously, is it that hard not to insert swear words to express your opinions? I don't think so. We had to weigh the good vs. bad and we chose to side on courtesy and respect.

The admins and moderators who ran PU and the old forums decided to implement a censor bot. They ran the site and forums very well. Through their leadership and guidance, PU (now BU) had become a popular and successful sight. We must continue this tradition of success.

prohpet. thats all well and good for the buf forums, but this isnt the ex-planetureal forums, this is the nalicity forums new home. nalicity didnt feel the need for a nannylock, so why should it now?

Luquado, Yoda and the others have and still are doing a great job. But now, NC is part of BU. NC and BU are symbiots in this new universe. PU was owned and operated by Gamespy. They considered NC just a hosted site. NC is not just a hosted site anymore. Instead, NC is an integral part of BU. In fhe future, when people read about NC, they will see BU and vice versa.

We are more than just forums and sites, we are one community. We must reflect the best characteristics of this community to others. Sure, you aren't going like everyone here, but we will defend our community from outsiders who wish to destroy us.

Kind of reminds me of old Japan. Each house fought each other, almost to the point of hatred. However, if a foreign nation invaded, all the houses came together as one to fight. We are just like that. Anyways...I degress.

I've been a member of forums that allowed people to say anything. These forums soon receive a bad reputation and very seldom receive new and qualified members. Good veteran members leave and all you have left is a handfull of flaming juveniles ready to show you they have power and control...something like parents;).

Thats true Prophetus...i suppose it would be too much work for the admins to turn of the censorbots and just ban any people who abuse the privilige, although that wouild probably be the best system.

People should just live with the censoring. If it really bothers you you can always bypass it after all :0

Well, we could have these two options:

1. Keep nannylock on.
2. Take it off and ban whoever uses foul language.
3. Go on my blind date with Claw and my two lubed love servants, Dan and oosyxx.

I'm leaning towards 2 and 3.

just to remind everyone...

does anyone remember a problem with swearing and cussing on the old boards? lucifix the turettes syndrome sufferer aside.

not really. i dont remember using any or many swearwords, but put a nannylock on a community that never had one and you draw attention to swearing and get this kind of thread. etc.

do you see?

It's a psychological condition that develops in children in which they succumb to emotional and vocal outburts. Some people tend to yell profanity for no reason at all when they have this syndrome and that is where the association with the word comes from.
