This post isn't directed at anyone...just the situation.
Yes, this board censors words.
Yes, some people don't need it.
Yes, some people's language skills don't go beyond four letter words.
Yes, some people are intelligent enough to express their thoughts without cursing.
Yes, some of you can by pass the censorship.
No, none of you are liable to answer to pissed off parents or receive emails complaining about our lack of involvement to keep the boards somewhat clean.
If someone complains they see swear words, we basically tell them our censor bots are active. However, some people think they just need to use swear words to get their ideas across. With that, some people hack those words into their threads/posts. The blame shifts to the individual, not the network.
Anyways, I can't begin to count how many threads became tinder boxes of insanity because someone decided to respond to another individual using simple swear words. Although, most of the problems come from newbie trolls.
Unfortunately, to protect the community as a whole, censorship of some words is needed to discourage a percentage of trouble makers. We know we can't prevent everyone from posting censored words, but at least we can attempt to minimize displays of ignorance.
Nobody likes to be censored, but this type of censorship promotes intelligent debates and conversations. Sure, the censor bot isn't perfect and we do look the other way when such words are posted. But I feel, if your life really needs the satisfaction of by-passing a censor bot just to post some swear words, then more power to you. Trust me...it does't make you look more intelligent.
