umm maybe its just the compression, but i think it looks more like paintings than game screenshots...

I've taken a look at the Gears of war pics here on Buf. AMAZING :O) Really, especially the park scene.
Man, and those buildings. Can I say.. photorealistic.. or almost...
Impressive :O)

Yes, they are from a SpeedTree demonstration within an Unreal Engine 3 map. And based on those terrain textures, it is a GoW map, though it's probably a test map and one that will not actually be used in the game.

Edit: In fact, if you click the link and look at the last pic, you'll see those windmill structures from GoW.

TGS 2005: Gears of War presentation

Before the big HD video, get a tiny glimpse of what is Gears of War by now with this video: 10 minutes of gameplay (basically the E3 levels), at Microsoft's pre-TGS conference. It's beautiful, smooth and action-packed, looks very promising. But you'll have to watch it in a very little window. At least, you won't tell that we slow down your computers...
