I don't think he would do it wrong.

I just think it's ridiculous and unnecessary.

Look at it this way, now you have 3 films to enjoy instead of having to replace one with watching Transformers 10 or some other regurgitated crap.

Three Tolkien based films by Peter Jackson instead of two? I fail to see how that is a bad thing.
Sure, they want to cash in and all this, but Lotr gave me a good time and I'm looking to have a good time with now another Tolkien trilogy. More adventure, more fun.

    this is a poor argument.

I wouldn't go and watch a bad movie just to fill in the time I don't spend watching 3 Hobbit movies.
that doesn't make any sense :p

I have no problem with it being three movies...

.. I'm sure it'll be all the Silmararillion bits and bobs that are relevant and will fill all the plot-holes where Gandalf wonders off to battle the proto-Sauron!

Actually, the only part I really liked about the whole Tom Bombadil part was the Barrow-Wights. That's it. I thought the rest of it was literally just nonsense.

Keep in mind they don't have the rights to Silmarillion.

I'm not sure that can stop you referencing it's content.
I'm sure LOTR had references to content in none LOTR books too.

Should they ever secure the rights, Jackson would be set for life. Keep in mind that the stories of the Hobbit and LotR take up less than 10 pages in the Silmarillion.

I still don't see where in the storyline they are going to break this movie off. Smeagol is apparently in it for crap's sake.
