39 yo and my 11 yo son just put a bunch of PC components on his xmas list.

Kinda proud he did I mostly on his own and even decided to compromise and downgrade a bit when he saw the final cost.

I thought about you yesterday as a random passing thought and wondered how you are doing. I'm still the same just older like everyone else. (48 now) I have a 9 year old daughter and a 7 year old son. Still married, bought a place in 2014, still working at the same Japanese IT company. Things are going good. Just living the life of being a dad. I still game too.

That's awesome. My son has picked up playing Fortnite on the Switch and he's getting a PS5 for Christmas so hopefully I can keep encouraging him towards a PC soon!
I will die on this hill that PC gaming is the best gaming. I have zero interest in console gaming - analog controllers ain't for me. Keep giving your son the hard sell!

BBA! <3 A good thought, I hope.

Nice, I can't believe your daughter is 9 now, and congrats on your second! I'd wondered if you were still in Japan - my partner and I plan to hit there and South Korea late 2024 (it was supposed to be this year and then home-ownership got in the way of that..) so will no doubt hit you up for recommendations.

Hello,
I can't say I was a regular around here. I do check in every now in then. I did some mapping, modding, porting for UT99, UT2003, and UT2004. I wouldn't say I was good by any means, but it sure is really fun. I did at some point want to move onto UT3 and UT4. That has long past. I loved modding for UT2004 so much, I say I still fool with it now a days. I wish some of the old sites were still around. I do miss the online action. I really always wanted to upload my stuff to Moddb. I think Mapraider is still around.
I'd have to say its really hard to keep up with everyone. I do get an email every now and then about my maps or what not.
I'm still glad there are some modders out there still doing it. I love it so much, I don't think I will ever be able to get away completely.
Honestly if Epic released UT5, I would definetly buy it. I hope more people can check in as well.
Hey to everyone reading this, its been awesome, and still is for me. I wish some more of the epicgame forums members were on here.

I've been to Japan a few times, so a few of my recommendations and tips. Firstly, a lot of restaurants and stores use cash still, so it's always good to carry some. Also, plan ahead for train journeys, especially if you plan to take the shinkansen (the high speed trains), as they are expensive but there are often discount tickets online. You can also get a rail pass, but that needs to be purchased before flying out then exchanged for the pass on arrival, that gives you unlimited use of any JR trains, including the shinkansen.
As for places to visit, Nikko is a really good day out from Tokyo, it's in the mountains so it's a little cooler but has some nice sights to see. Kamakura is another good day trip, it's on the coast, and has a fairly decent beach if you're into that, but also has some nice temples and such to look around, and a huge buddha statue. If you stay near Kyoto, Nara is also worth a visit, it's got a nice temple and shrine in the main park, as well as wild deer roaming around. Just be careful if you decide to get crackers to feed the deer, they will all home in on you. Think feeding pigeons, but with huge deer instead...

Ahhh this is really useful stuff to know, thanks Syri!

Whilst perhaps not the most effective use of our time, it looks like it is working out cheaper for us to base ourselves in Tokyo and then the loose plan is to visit Yokohama for a day out and then Osaka & Kyoto via shinkansen and then a return flight to South Korea. I'm not sure where you're based but the cost of flights to S. Korea alone is more than flights and 10 days accommodation in Tokyo So that really useful to know about buying before we go. Nara I've heard of (for the deer!) but Nikko wasn't on our radar at all... after a quick Google it does look really pretty! I'll do some research and see if we can fit it into our plans. Thank you!

60 years old now, officially a senior citizen. My daughter's 25. I'm hoping to retire in about two years and spend winters on Sanibel Island in Florida.

I'm still gaming. TF2 mostly on the skial server.
I hope you are still farting like back in the day. It would be a shame if your daughter hasn't been on a car ride with the windows up when you nearly shit yourself.

55 years old now. Unreal life seems so long ago now! My son is 17 and has been digging through old boxes of mine. Found lots of gold master cd's, some Unreal and UT treasures (shirts that he now wears) and the original elusive S3 Unreal CD. Life has been interesting and I am glad PU/BU friends were part of it.

Run, you magnificent bastard.
46 years old, responsible for construction procurement and asset management for an airport authority. Married for just over 15 years, no kids. Love travelling!

I’m a happier person today than I was all those years ago but I do think back fondly on the PlanetUnreal and Beyond Unreal days. And running Modcentral with Stallion (who has gone on to do absolutely massive, massive things). Great to see some of the old familiar names.

35 now, married with awesome kids and loving life - I game fairly often still. Love you guys! I wonder how Hanover is these days, and DragonSlayer and Glassboy.

(and yeah I no longer have access to my original captainrad account - no idea what email I used back then..)
