  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

though it is highly unlikely that a map will ever get a 10 you just never know (*cough* Scimitar *cough*),imagine if DM-Aristrocracy had some Alpu3 gameplay to match its visuals, the option should be open "just in case", BTW I think my standards are a little stricter than the average mapper/player when it comes to ratings:)
anyways what about the .5's being implemented into the rating system then you could rate up to 9.5 which is just about perfect ;)

I definitely wouldn't want to change the review schema. I think it's excellent the way it is.

Griffin = ok gameplay imo. Visuals = very good but like hour said, theme wasn't new and imo aristocracy did this better anyways. And of course, I am scared by the fact the map has 300,000 polys in places when it shouldn't really ever go above 80,000 :p

edit: anyways, back on topic, I don't really see any reason to not allow users to rate maps in steps of 0.5

I don't see any reason not to either, I just don't know how difficult of coding task that is for Mass....

Bot40, that's a very disturbing avatar you've got there. I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight.

not to stray off topic but I want to bring up another subject
how about NC going back to the 10 point scale for reviews, since 9's and 10's are thrown around so recklessly almost every map gets that extra point, I've never seen a map underated, plus when a map gets a bad score then the friend or clanmate of the map maker comes by and throws in a 10 just to spite the reviewer and other people that give low scores
I've never in my 4 year stay at NC have given any map a 10 and I doubt I ever will, I've only given 2 maps 9's

The .5 system is valid and worthwhile now that it's up and running.

Unless there is some way of implementing a sliding scale from realistic to stupid to abjectly ridiculous you will never get people to behave realistically with regard to the ratings system and I see this is still the case in the last couple of days.

Just as well you haven't enabled scientific notation and superscripting as you would need a Cray (and probably a very large server farm to store the results) to work out the monthly hotlist!

I hate to be pessemistic but this unrealistic rating binge that clan members or mapfriends have perpetrated will probably continue. The spam ratings will continue, the adventure will continue........

Some people will continue to be disappointed by downloading over-rated maps based on poor to non-existent screenshots and then they will flame rate the map and there will be spam reprisals and retalliations......

"The cosmic ballet continues.........."

As a visitor to your site I will continue to respect anyone who is objectively honest, at least about their opinions, if not entirely about their ratings. And the same goes for mappers' reactions to honest ratings too...

THE END

Personally, I think NC has the best review schema out there. The three-category model works well, and helps construct a score that's more meaningful than a simple 1-10 overall impression like some other sites use.

Hourences, I finally finished that map you critiqued for me so long ago. :) It's been sitting on my HDD unfinished for months. I couldn't implement everything you suggested, and the map certainly still has its problems, but I think it turned out considerably better than it was originally. Thanks again for the help.

If you guys want a new schema for NC4, you're more than welcomed to develop it (in a new thread). I'll keep it around for NC4. When is NC4? who knows.

I think the current schema is good enough.
