I said the Navy no longer has direct operational control of it's SPECWAR boys. Navy has the pipeline, the gear, and most of the support infrastracture (for example, non-qual ETs, HMs, GMs, and ITs all can serve in SEAL teams). But Fort McDill puts the ops together. Better joint operations capability.

This may just be the Navy in regards to TAD, but when I was TAD for security, ASF owned me. Above them was NSF. And past them were the scrambled eggs. There was no input from my (sh*t forgot the term here) permament command, N771. My chain of command had completely changed. I was part of N771 in regards to berthing and pay purposes only. Not gone, but they really had no say in what duties I was assigned. If they had any, I would have been swabbing a lot of p-ways and scrubbing a lot of buttscuttles .

When did the Corps start putting fighters into SOCOM? I know they had a few intel and admin types there, but never heard of any Corps trigger-pullers.

Lol, they have always had marines there. Just not warfighters. Now its different. The Commandant decided that its time the Force elements get some respect and come out of the closet. Now we got specialized recon warfighters, trained in combat diving (marine corps combat dive school, the best in the world) and jump school, Benning still the staple there for us all.

Edit: the new unit is called DET1 I'll try to post some links.

Sorry: the gear is provided by SOCOM, thats what they are there for. the regular warfighters use regular gear. its funny how not many people even know that Hecklar and kotch created the MP5 military for marine recon units, even the OICW is being created for marines.

Found a link after a quick search.

http://globalspecops.com/msd.html

"First Phase will be conducted at Camp Pendleton, Ca (June-Oct. 2003)
All elements and then the Headquarters and Intelligence elements will be assigned to SOCOM in October, 2003.

The Force Reconnaissance element will receive the Second Phase which will be conducted by SEAL personnel at the Naval Special Warfare Center, Coronado, CA (Oct,2003-April, 2004)

After completion of this phase, this element will be assigned to SOCOM and will operate in six month tours with SEAL operations."

"The personnel chosen for assignment to this unit will all have at least five years experience in a Force Recon MOS with superior efficiency ratings."

Looks like the Corps is bringing out the bad-asses for this one :D.

I gave that thing back to ASF. With glee. You can have one EXACTLY like it though, complete with loose action, damaged sights, and worn barrel. Get you a few of the watches that allow you to carry that rifle, eight hours at a time, from 0800-1600, in 100+ degree heat, while wearing a 20lbs. vest. Who knows, if your luck holds, you might even get relieved late by a ****bag FC3 or short-timer GM2 who doesn't give a f*ck .

Funny (no ****). We had m16's though, didnt know we even had 14's for anything. We had A1's at first then the new A2's. I hated guard duty, espessially if you were (like I was) part of a reac, I used to actualy take my weapon and (shhhhhhh) put it in a barral of tide laundry detergent, only ****in way to get that bitch inspection clean after an operation when youve fired it in the dirt. Gotta clean the **** out out of it and dry the **** out of it, but goddam if not a spec if carbon comes of of that bitch.

Never thought of that. Gotta be that Marine ingenuity :D. The worst of it was when I went to turn her back into the gun store (EDIT: nickname for the armory), cleaned to spotless perfection unlike when I first received her, and the duty Gunner's Mate was giving me sh*t about the discrepencies. Like my puny-ass famfire/qual had somehow done 20 years worth of damage to it . It got the point where Gunner (EDIT: former GM who became warrant officer) was coming down and looking at the records and showing us how to write off the damage from years of accumlated wear and tear. And reaming my ass because I shouldn't have accepted an "unsat" weapon. Like any other 25-40 year old rifle is gonna be in better shape.

NSF kept the M16s to themselves. Bastards.

Lol, Ive been there. Lucky for me at 1stmardiv the two Nco quarters housed me and the other our armerours. I had Alll me weapons including my platoons LCT'd all the ****in time. What a worry not to worry about. Me and the armerours were tight as ticks, when I woudl go on an op we all even rigged a the shoulder houlster to be miami vice style, (where the pistol sits under your arm) I'll nver forget the time me and my buddy got into an argument in the armoury, I had a pass he was the armerour. I was yellinhg like crazy at him and him at me and the young marine sentry on duty didnt know what to do. Poor guy.
