Putting Unreal Tournamnent On Hold

I don't think WarTourist has the best of roles in the matter. There has been some criticism on things he's said in the past. However, he's probably the only person that has really exchanged views with the public on a one-to-one level (which is good imo). I've also realized that, in a manner of speaking, he has sometimes been between the hammer and anvil at times.

If anything, it is the transformation of Epic into a business that has led to some distance between fans and the franchise. In short, WarTourist or someone else can say one thing and an internal decision goes the other way, introducing a load of "red tape" with no further information being given out.

At least, that is my interpretation of the question.

They are saying that UT4 or any other sequel is on hold. Free content releases and updates for UT3 are still possible.

Not very likely, even if it is in the realm of possibility. Epic is looking to do more work on Gears and new IP, which they said so themselves. They are more likely trying to wash their hand off the Unreal franchise for a long time. They'll probably finish off the MSUs and what not for now, and then have nothing until they find the heart for UT4 or Unreal 3.
