Hi,
This started maybe three days ago, I go to try to turn on my PC and it starts to start-up for like 2 seconds (the fans start etc.) but then it just shuts off.

So then I started taking out hardware and trying again, eventually i took out the wireless adapter (WG311T) and it turned on. Obvioulsy then i couldn't connect to the interent.

Then a while later I turn of my PC again, and put the adapter back in, and then I go to try turn on the PC and it starts-up fine, so i'm thinking everythings back to normal, but i come back the next day and again, it won't start-up and I have to take out the adapter, turn on the PC, wait a while, turn it off, put back in the adapter and turn it back on.
So thats worked for a few days, it's not working today (i'm on a laptop now) but it might work later.

But anyway; does anyone know what might be causing this? Should I get a new wireless adapter :(
Thanks

does the bios give you any errors? or does it even to to the bios? did you change any hardware recently? had power outage lately or anything else that could have damaged hardware? tried putting wireless into another pci slot?

Nope, doesn't get a chance to get to bios, it's just starts for a second.
I haven't changed any hardware or installed any new software lately, it was working fine before.
I don't think there was a power outage lately, if there was i aseep and didnt realise it :p

Yes, i tried, it wouldnt work, i'll try that agin now though, just to make sure, thanks.

edit: i just tried the other slot and it's not working in that one either, so i presume the adapter's just broke?
Strange that it worked for those days after i done the tornig on and of thing, that still hasnt worked today.

No, it does work when i take out the wireless you see. And sometimes it works when it's in.

The thing has probably just crapped out, happened to me with my WUSB54AG a while ago, except mine started smoking, then made the PC turn off... We all know how good quality chinese products are so its no surprise when they die

Wireless NICs are pretty cheap now, i'd imagine you can get one at Fry's from $5-20.

Aw :(
To save money I could connect my PC to my laptop with one of those crosswire cables. Then my PC could connect to the Internet through my laptops wireless connection.
Would that work?

You might have a bad PSU. I damaged one once at a LAN party and the PC would sometimes refuse to boot. If you want to troubleshoot your computer, I can provide instructions on how to test components methodically.

Could it still be the PSU even though it turns on fine when the wireless card is out?
How do i know like, if its the PSU or the wireless card?

Well, the wireless card might be taking in just enough current for the PSU to fail somehow. If it's a PCI card, it's using a 3.3V signal and there'd have to be something really wrong with it to cause the PC to not boot up.

The safest way to test the PSU is to swap it around with another one. See if you have someone in your contacts that has a spare one lying around.

Once you've determined if the PSU is ok or not, you can test other components.

I remember once this PC wouldn't start, but for love or money I couldn't figure out why. I ended up fixing it, and I really have no idea how either.

They only thing I really remember is going back and making sure ALL of my connections were 100% snug and tight, even reseating the CPU. A slightly loose cable is all it takes for it to just "kill" itself like that.

that would work, yea. you would have to share the network connection on your laptop and then connect your pc to the laptop with a lan cable.

I can't find a spare PSU of anyone yet D:
So for now i'm going to try that^^ and just leave the card out.

I might bring the card to a friends PC and try it in that to see is it broke. I think anyone i know has a spare PSU.
Thanks.

Ok I was trying to do that, but i can't get it to work, they where connected a while ago, but the PC couldn't connect to the internet, just send files to the laptop etc. So then I shared the wireless connection on the laptop, and now they arent connected, like i can't even send files to the laptop or anything. this is a picture of how it is :p

The laptops connected to the internet, and I wan't the computer to be able to connect through it. But I can't get it to work :(
Any ideas? they are both Vista.
EDIT: acctualy they are both connected now, as a network like. But the PC still can't connect to the internet.

a) Verify that there are no firewalls causing the problem. For example, temporarily disable any software firewall.

b) Verify you've followed the steps for Internet Connection Sharing:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/bfd3bd31-82f0-4b9c-9cde-fb92bc2b14771033.mspx

Satellite? oO

Anyway, I'd rather invest in Ethernet over powerline if using cable is out of the question. Anything but wireless. I realize some aren't given that choice, but still, Ethernet over power lines is far better than wireless.

But anyway it's working, thanks.

Yeah, But I have to use wireless though :( it's not that bad, it just disconnects sometimes.

Nice MSPaint skills there.
You have an Alienware PC? Or is it just the case?

Anyways, my only knowledge on this: there's a similar error happening on PS3 systems (Not often, but it does happen) where the system will appear to boot up fine for about two seconds, then shut itself off. It was determined that the cause was a bad power supply (Someone switched it out after they had the error and it got fixed).
Just saying this because from what you said it seemed like the same kind of issue :)
