Blein: The minimum specs aren't available yet. The game is still in a very early stage and prolly won't be released for another 1.5 - 2 years. But I figure the minimum will be today's top of the line pc's. So you better take that extra paper round and start saving. :D

kafros is just taking the piss :)
Gotta agree here. Today's Top of the liners are going to be more or less mid/low-mid range CPUs by the time Envy comes out (Which I figure will be Q4 2006/Q1 2007.)

Our current rigs will probably actually run it, but we'll most likely need a better videocard and my guess is a Minimum CPU of 2 Ghz, along with 512 RAM.

Keep in mind, though, as always, Minimum does not equal good framerates, nor good eyecandy...

They would be a bit silly not to scale it so current top end PC's can run it mid range.

There is a large group of people that blew several grand on PC's that can pump out doom3, half life 2. And I know iD had to nerf Doom3 visualy in order to make sure people could play it.

Also UT (outside of it's small rabid fanbase) has never been a game that got the majority of gamers to shell out for new hardware, it's just not that popular or important (take 2k3's dent vs doom3 or halflife2 if you doubt me). I think EPIC knows this and will bust their balls to optomize the game.

I'm think the release will be somewhat like doom3's "yes you can run it, it will look nice and the frame rates will be decent... but don't expect all the fancy stuff till new tech comes out down the line"

Nothing in service in the home market today will run "Envy" approaching mid or high level settings upon release. Same as as the announcement of UT2 and Unreal 2...when they announced Unreal 2, there wasn't a PC/GPU combo on the market that would have approached running that game a playable level for public consumption.
I think that the poster that said that todays top-o-the line are likely to be minimum specs for this game when/if it's ever realeased...really any U-engine 3 game on the horizon is likely to require moire muscle than anything ony of us have got...so it better be good for us to want to upgrade.

remember people, Multiple gpu/cpu systems will be catered for in this, so it will be taking advantage of all the raw power that's coming out just now that's not being used.

According to the audio interview that Mark Rein did, the Unreal Engine 3.0 tech demo was on an AMD 64 FX-53 or 55 and a pair of prototype SLI 512MB 6800 Ultra.

The demo was run in 1280 x 1024 and got just over 30 frames per second.

Now, obviously, that doesn't tell you much about actual gameplay or any optimizations that they may implement in the mean time. But it does let you know that you're going to be able to push your brand new top of the line PC to the limit with this game.

I trust that reasonably lowered details and resolutions will be able to be run on mere mortal PCs. :)

Yea, the best part, thats right NOW, once the first games based on UE3 start rolling out, I suspect another hardware gen will have come by, and be able to do the same at the 40-50 range, maybe getting 60+. This is simply a guess though.
