First of all, PUG activity doesn't count. It is typically a stat people use when that is all that is left. The majority of people do not PUG because it can be a pain in the ass unless you have nothing better to do.

Secondly, show a larger time period. I remember nights on #2k4AS and #naat where we had a couple night with a massive number of PUGs, and then no more for a month

We have pugs pretty much every night. And I never play publics anyways so pugs is the only activity that counts for me.

There's also a BTA server thats always full and a couple of warfare ones.

Titan warfare servers one and all. It's such a shame. I also play nightly, on pubs, vCTF mostly.

Titan pretty much ended warfare in the US as a nightly thing. It was bad enough when there was 1-2 populated servers, now with only a titan server it means no populated war servers. Last Sunday night was the last time I saw a populated non-titan war server. That's my definition of pretty much dead. I wish it were not so. I would love to see a resurgence, even just a couple hundred more players would be great.

I can't help but point out that there is still a very active capture-the-flag PUG match community for UT99. You can find it here:

Oh yeah, I just checked the abot in #ut3pugs and here's what I get:

[13:16] <@ABot> ‡ paperk TheLegacy RoadKillGrill ‡ TSM|lkemas SKUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLL detox ‡ 6wks 5days 10hrs 28mins 14secs ago ‡

SKUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLL is me btw, but hahahah our channel is awesome. I should mention that I'm in a 3v3 IG CTF tourney and we still haven't played our second match because we can't manage to get six people together to play it.

We used to have the raptor server. But it was too laggy to play for me. There is still torlan.ru as a non-titan server afaik but I don't play publics anyways so it doesn't really matter to me.

Yeah, I tried it out last night and while the menus work perfectly the mouse doesn't rotate all around when you play the game. This is a major problem in all UE3 based games and people posted hacks thay have to be recompiled into Wine which ends up breaking some other games. :(

So far I only tried it with Crossover Office Gaming Edition (which uses Wine 1.1.45), I'll have to play around with the lastest Wine 1.2 to see if there's any hacks I can use...

Till then there's always the UT3 Weapons mutator for UT2004. :D

Yea, that bug is a major showstopper for all UE games... And probably others that use DInput, too. It will be possible to get rid of it by implementing XInput 2 but that will mean major changes to Wine and you won't see it in Wine 1.2 due to feature freeze and time limits.

I heard of Linux systems but I read a thread on a PC-BSD forum that someone could play UT3 on any BSD type OS, but they didn't have the screenshots to prove it and IDK if it's possible to do that on a BSD platform.

Ok, on the WineHQ page they had a thing you had to add to the registry to get the mouse look to work:

Code:
[HKCU\Software\Wine\DirectInput] MouseWarpOverride = force

Added the reg key and still nothing... I know it's possible b/c someone had a YouTube video running UT3 in Linux with full mouse warp around working.

GreatEmerald: In the older UE games like Unreal & U2XMP the mouse pointer is visible in the middle of the screen but the mouse still works. Is this part of the DInput problem you mentioned? Just curious...

Unreal4Eva: Wine is ported to BSD as well as MacOS X. It should be no different from the Linux version, but again the mouse issue keeps UT3 from being playable under Wine.

The mouse pointer in the middle of the screen is because of the mouse warp override. Without it the mouse works fine, just you can't spin around. With it you can't navigate the menus. (well, UT1 and UT3 are better in this regard.)

Well...figured out how to get it working. It needs Wine 1.1.35 which you can get from using PlayOnLinux. Can't see the Steam client but can launch the game from the notification icon. Added the MouseWarpOverride registry key and it works great. Only issue is that you can only use the keyboard for the menus, so keep hittting Tab and/or arrow keys till you get the button highlighted. (Could a gamepad work better for that?)

UT3 For Linux Is Laid To Rest By Epic's Mark Rein

Back in May we reported that Epic Games finally admitted that UT3 for Linux would likely never materialize. This first person shooter was released back in 2007 and was supposed to have a Linux client that was to be ported by Ryan "Icculus" Gordon. He was working on this Linux client as recent as last year, but it never was released and no other information was provided by Epic Games, Ryan, or other sources. In May we heard from Epic's Steve Polge that the Linux client would likely never materialize. Today we have been passed along a note from Mark Rein, the VP of Epic Games and creator of the Unreal Engine.

After Mark and other representatives of Epic Games previously reported that the Unreal Tournament 3 Linux client was in the works, today Mark has come out to say: "Sorry but I don't think this is going to happen anymore."

Mark provided no other details on the matter, such as why this Linux client port, which is working as previously shown by Ryan Gordon, will not be released.

So, a final nail in the coffin?.. But can we at least hope for UE3/UE4 on Linux?
