Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll be sure to check out the sites you listed.

I'm loving this digital camera. With a 512 MB SD memory card and some fresh rechargable batteries, I can go as long as I can stand without running out of memory or power. Want to take 200 pictures and keep only the 5 or so good ones? Go ahead! No worrying about wasting film for me :).

@ JaFO: My fiancee took that picture, actually. I took the one similar to it in the same post. What we did was set the camera to super macro mode, set it very close to the ring, and one of us took the picture while the other held a flashlight beam on the ring. We held the flashlight horizontally so that the beam would hit the diamond straight on. We ended up with a nice light scattering effect, albeit just a tad blurry.

If you all are interested, I've posted some more pictures here.

Again, thanks.

Well since I got my Powershot S1 IS I figured I would post my silly shots here.
First, the 4 pics that show off the 10x optical zoom. Keep in mind that the 3rd and 4th were taken from behind 'double' glass and that the focus was off.

And now, my silly shots.

I should have put more effort in the second of the 3 links, but the idea is pretty neat IMO.
Anyway I am loving the 640x480 movie option. Can't wait to get my hands on that 1024mb CF memory card so that I create lots and lots of silly films.

1/15th of a second, handheld, 60mm scale focal length.

If there's one thing i like about this dImage A1, its the anti-shake feature. Unlike some cameras that seem to have an anti-stability feature.

Rotsam, 1GB CF with 80x write, $99 USD

Bah Americans always get stuff cheap. Cheapest 1gb I could find here (from a reliable brand that is) was 60 euros. Still not bad, but it definately isn't an 80x speed.

What framerate are you wanting to record videos? A slower card might not be able to keep up with 640x480 at 30fps - I had to get a SanDisk Ultra II SD for my camera to do that.

EDIT: I've put up a whole load more photos of and around my new house here. Sometime I might get round to writing a gallery script...

Well, 30 fps obviously. 640x480, obviously. If it doesn't work well I'll bring the card back, they usually aren't too difficult about it.

Here are some more standard shots, my last ones inside the house. From now on I will try to go outside more often and take some pics. I hope it will snow soon, that should allow some lovely pics.

I bought a kingston 1024mb thing. I took a look at this site to see what the speed is but I don't really get it, perhaps you do crowze?

I don't think 1.5-5MB/sec will be enough, my 128MB Crucial MMC was about that speed and it couldn't record more than about 10 seconds before filling the buffer. I reccommend the SanDisk Ultra II cards, although more expensive, you get nearer 10MB/sec write speed which is more than enough.

You know I've been thinking, movies take about 1,9 mb per second when in full quality and full speed, so if the camera is quick it should be allright, no?
Oh well, I'll just have to wait and see. I never record longer than 30 seconds, I make lots of short scenes because drunk friends make horrible actors. In any case, thanks for the suggestion. If things don't work out I'll be knowing what to do.

edit: The following, unfinished, short film should prove what I mean. After the first 3 short scenes (which introduces the characters) the "movie" starts. We were going to edit the scenes a bit to make them follow each other a bit better, as well as put some better sounds in. Anyway it should still give you an idea of how short my scenes are. The guy with the sunglasses is me.

Got my camera yesterday and I promised to post here as soon as I got it, so here goes. Note that I'm just starting to learn how to operate it and this picture was the first I snapped. It shows the view from my porch basically. Nothing fancy or spectacular. I cranked up the gamma a bit in the image in order for you to actually see what it's supposed to be :)
