If you are having trouble controling the recoil you could try the MP5/40A3 it has a nice low recoil and a good rate of fire. But the damge isnt that good especially since most people wear armor, but just sim for the head or limbs

1). Engage the enemy at the furthest possible effective range.

I am not sure if this is a good advice. newbie vs veteran in long range, the veteran will win in... 90%. To someone without experience, the odds will be more even in short range (if he doesn't have a sucky ping, at least). Of course, the difficult will be to get in short range of a tango and still being alive.

Ignore all the advices given in this thread, but follow my instructions :

-Be a man, use the Ka-Bar only
-Do not run like some online coward , always walk like a man
-Never make some side steps like some chicken, walk in straight line like a real man.
-Taking cover is for the weaks, walk as a strong man in the middle of open spaces
-Only kiddies take LevelIIIa armor, the alpha male walks without armor or helmet
-Never listen to teammates, they are just ignorant childs and you are the main man

Now you are ready to go online if i am in the opposite team.

That piece of advice is to be taken in context with the other advice in the list...esspecially the one in regard to using cover and concealment. The use of cover and concealment along with the above advice will increase the chances that the combatant will see the enemy at range and not be seen himself until it is too late for the tango or quite possibly not be seen at all by the tango. (Hence some people's experiences with being shot "from out of nowhere".) When I stop trying to play like most other INF players and use this tactic, I tend to be more effective for my team.

Come on, Turin. Do you even have any sense of combat tactics or even any basic training in this area? This is just common sense even for those without it. ....and while not all real life combat tactics apply to an fps, some of them do.

I'd say the P-90 is an horrible weapon to start with (and I played most of my first online matches with it before switching to the SIG). You simply won't learn to aim with it.

If you're not sure to win the fight, fall back. Well, that's the wise thing to do. If you think you have a good chance, have fun.

Do not use anything with a scope/acog. Learn how to use the iron sights first (although I'm not sure if that's still relevant nowadays).

Do not, I repeat, do not waste your time playing against bots. The only thing bots are good for is to try out new weapons/loadout and even then, simply use the training range.

Yes, please.
Actually, I've always thought the AKMSU was a good weapon for beginners. The high recoil will teach you how to control your fire well, while the damage per shot and close range firepower is quite high, and the drum gives you plenty of ammo (though if you think the drum is too easy you can take mags instead).

Lethal Dosage

Serial Rapis...uh, Thread Killer
Hell when i started out in 2.86, i used the MP540/a3 (yes, that old thing) then once i had learned to aim, i cwitched to the M16a2 M203, where a 3 round burst can take out any guy, n once u learn to aim the nades, the M203 i devastating, n this still applies in 2.9

Now that i've been using 2.9 since it was released, and have been experimenting with other guns, i still go back to the M16a2 M203, however, the SG551 and the M4a1 are also good weapons, especially if u use the M4a1 with the Reflex sight, it makes it really easy to aim, n easy to learn how to aim for beginners.

The AKMSU, despite the decent damage n ability to have hi-cap mags, the high recoil n relatively slow rate of fire (compared to other SMG's n 5.56 assault rifles) makes it pretty useless unless in CQB, where the hi-cap drum mags, really shine (for example if u just entered a building through a window, n ur weapon is hipped cus of jumping, then a bad guy pops out u can just point the gun in his general direction n spray, sweeping from side to side, leaving u with a much better chance of survival than a 5.56 pee shooter with a relatively small magazine)

But I advise that u use all guns and get good with all of them so, god forbid, if u didn't take enough ammo with u (u will kno this when u run out) u will b able to take a weapon from a dead guy n use it to a standard where u would stand a good chance of surviving for a while longer, just remember, if ur not being shot at when u get the weapon, get some ammo too! :)

Hm.. I remember when I started playing this last year. I tried starting with the FAMAS because I had (and still have) a bullpup fetish -didn't work too well due to lack of peripheral vision with irons (I use ACOG with the FAMAS now). The AKMSU is a good beginner weapon, as is the MP5A3/40, the SG551, and the P90. All of those have nice, open sights, and are adaptable to at least medium range -fighting. Expect most of your encounters to be under 150M (as in real life). Don't treat this game with an arcade-ish style (Ie don't play this like Counter-strike -very little strafing, running, and jumping involved) -the gameplay is far more focused and intense. Be very careful, and follow veterans. ACOG is actually very fun to use once you get used to spending most of your time hipped until you see someone at a distance. Also, pay attention to your stamina when running long distances. I think I just about reiterated most of what other people say -treat my advice as you will.

P.S. If you are playing EAS and are lost, just follow the vertical, colored lines on the bottom left of your screen to get to your objectives. 'Nuff said. On TDM, if you're lost, just camp out in a corner and wait for someone to walk by (until you get to know the map better).

Okay, I just opened up the GD Training server for the public. It's called {GD} Semi Public Training Server. "Semi" because it will be locked for when ever GD needs it for private Practice.

Settings:
Max 4 Players [should be good for one on one help]
Minimum Players Need to Start 1 [No Bots]
TDM Settings with a crap load of Respawns
Standard GD NA Mutators [Everything Known to God]

Maps:
DM-INF-ShootingRange
EAS-INF-GDTargetRange
EAS-INF-Range-UrbanSnipe
EAS-INF-Range-M16
EAS-INF-Range-JungleSnipe
EAS-INF-Range-CloseQuarter
Note: these EAS maps are really DM maps, I just renamed awhile back before I could mix game types maps in the Web Admin.

The EAS-INF-GDTargetRange map is a incomplete map that is made by {GD}Wolfe. I hope at some point he will finish it but he has been AWOL for quite some time. Any case there is a elevator that goes down [underground] that has a room with Pop-Up Targets [like in America's Army]. They are good for newbie's but veterans will find them to easy to hit [one of the things Wofe was to correct].

So, Uber_Soldat, find you someone to pair up for some one on one [like NTKB].

Search everywhere for mutators that will give you a help. For beginners, find the Magcheck mutator, and when you get good enough, drop it from the list.
Go to the training range, go to the explosives/ heavy weapons training place and load up with nades... lots of them. (It helps to have one of the stamina-reducing mutators on too).

And like most of the people here have said: Practice.

Step 1. Get on a TDM Server
Step 2. Watch what most of the players there do
Step 3. Do the exact opposite of what most the TDMers do
Step 4. Don't EVER EVER EVER fucking whine about camping

There you go, you'll be a great player in no time if you follow those simple steps.
