Well not all mh are godz or BT, I mostly log out when a server picks those
speaking of ugly, Try deadcity. and if you want something unplayable go to the excaliber server and vote for any "monsters strike back" map

I'm attempting to make a MH map myself, Yes most shapes are cubes but I added some deco and story to it. Allmost done.

Deadcity, that's the one with the day-night change right? And when it's night, the zombies come out etc...

Yeah, that's one superfugly map. There are two versions. First one has zombies running 10.000 miles/hour and if they hit you once you're death (iirc).

But iirc the author included a file (I think in the second version) which enables manipulating the properties of the zombies...

I was looking for mh-andromeda_ancient. I found it on UTJ. It was part of a mappack, which also happened to have mh-godz-saltified.

Ok, andromeda_ancient_beta first:

Maybe it's already out of beta stage, maybe I'm playing an earlier version don't know... but I can't wait to see this map in it's final stage!
THIS is what monsterhunt maps should be like, in a way. I mean, not everyone is capable of creating a level in the likes of this.
Not only in looks, but design.

Nice. Very nice. There's lots of room to explore, nice touches (creative, original), some rooms are quite empty though whereas others have more detail, lots of pupae and krall to frag...
And what a friggin' beautiful skyboxs! It's one of the best I've seen so far.

Tell me if you've played a version which has a completed town part?
You know, the small nali town.

I can see some medpacks, a key and 4 snipers in 2 towers. But there are black sheets in front of them...odd...
So you can't see them,at all.

I like this map, a lot. :tup:

Now for mh-godz-saltified.

Good parts first:

- The lighting is better. Not much, but it's bearable now.
- There's some creativity (guide the redeemer through an obstacle course)
- The following models have been used (hopefully asking the author's permission):

Gollum -> mullog creature

Cobra model

Since there are no readme files included with the mappack, I can only assume...

He made good use of the gollum model, meaning -> the skins aren't bad. The gollum uses a shock-style projectile.

Placement however: Bad. Too many in the same spot. But that's godz for ya.
Retarded monster placement...

The cobras: There's one big cobra afaik, and his smaller minions. Kinda made me chuckle, as they use the pupae sounds.
They reside in empty rooms...oh wait, there's a pole in the middle.
Yes... a pole. :eek:

The bad:

Typically godz: spawn in a buttfugly room, which has all the weapons-powerups etc you need. Run towards one of the three teleporters and spawn in either:

-empty rooms with no monsters (hazard course with deemer)
-box rooms with 1-2 ultrapowered monsters (I THINK, based on the memories I have of other FANHTASZTIC godz maps)

- rooms which have tentacles all along the ceiling.
The tentacles also use these powerfull shock projectiles.
They end up killing eachother in the process of attacking you.. yay...........
tarded.

Gameplay is typically godz. Collect weapons in start room, enter crap room with too many monsters, fire your gun for a short while and die. Rince, repeat.. rince, repeat...
No continuity(?) -> meaning -> why bother? That's no gameplay,ffs.
Gameplay is if you make things a hell of lot interesting.

Spread weapons/ammo/health etc over the map, for starters. Not too many at first instance, increase the amount slightly the further you make progress in the map.
Don't, for crying out loud, add a gazillion uberpowerfull creatures in a box room!

Really...>_<

Sure, saltified isn't as bad as the previous godz maps BUT............ it's godz.
And that should tell you enough.


The mappack also has a map called glory_road_hotel (one of the few which has a level screenshot!).
Looks interesting...

MH-glory_road_hotel is a good map imho. I've played it a few times and enjoyed it.

Godz Saltified sounds not so good. Guess i wont be adding it to my server. I am trying get a good collection up.

I have MH-andromeda_ancientTest1.unr on my server. Is this a different version? How so?

this guy salty probably spent alot of time on this.
also..you'll never guess what maps are played most on my server.......
i usually leave when gods maps are chosen, but this one isn't just the same map with different textures. he made some **** here. i played it. not one tentacle killed another tentacle while i was playing. btw...maybe you firing your weapon for a short while and dying is not the maps' fault. maybe it's the servers fault. you might try setting the skill level to "wuss"
everyone has their tastes....some people like to kill a ****load of monsters, some people like to run around a map for hours trying to find a freaken key. that's why we have gods, and andromedia. i personally didn't get much enjoyment out of andromedia. especially when i had to swim in the dark for what seemed to be forever looking for that last squid i missed.

let me see the map you built. i'm sure it's flawless.

Flawless is impossible. And liking a map is all a matter of opinion, which I do respect. But if a map is crap imho, I'll chew it up and spit it out.
It's nothing personal against map makers or server admins, or players!

Anywayz...

Mh-andromeda_ancient: gave it a try.
It's test version 1G iirc. So, heh, maybe a lot has been changed by now.

The good:
Like I've said, the map looks great. That is, the outside area(church-nalitown), the tower, the dark water. Lighting is ok. Sometimes it could've been done better. Some hallways are rather empty, but it's not something to bitch about ;=)
That's one 1337 skybox.
Nice use of extras, like the small rocks on the sides, nalistatues assaulted by Pupae heh.. keys (bit too many). Green goo lights to guide your way through the water, but I really hope they've increased in brightness though.
It was most of the times almost impossible to see the slith etc...

This map obviously needs 6-8 players, at least, who known the map inside-out and play as a team.
Otherwise it can't be that much fun to play. Well, course, that's rather a daring statement because I've only played it once!

What dissapointed me about this map, is the powered up and respawning (creaturefactory?) monsters thing.
See, I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing. Heck no. If used properly it can be fun.

But not for the entire lenght of the map. Every single area has monsters spawning. And sometimes it just doesn't make sense. (Is it, to a certain degree, in an unreal game?)

The flies fight was fun, I'll give you that. It got darker and darker, but it remained fun.

The dark water part was borderline horrible. It just didn't seem to come to an end. It is true that you have to finish off all the monsters before the key room is unlocked, right?
Takes too long. BUT, of course, I was playing solo.

Those hyperfish, too fast and deadly. It just ain't fun being ripped apart in a matter of seconds even if you're completely shielded/ 199 health.
0_° If only I had a minigun, I could've damaged them.. but it was almost impossible.

Here's what seriously killed it for me, and I HATE, trust me, I HATE having to say this... I really do. I wish I wouldn't have to...

Floating platforms in space.

Oh please, no. Not a map like this.

The good is, that most areas don't have deadly endings if you happen to miss a platform.
But man, is it a waste of friggin' time.

- The rooms you have to cross to enable the first weapons, armour etc.
- The huge crack in the floor
- The broken steps (tower)
- The floating platforms in space and mirrors
- The lava

isn't a real issue offline, but playing this online with a lousy ping?
Does it really work? I can only read this as "gameplay killer"...sorry...

Maybe if it had been used to a much smaller extent, but he exagerated.

A real shame, imho.

Otherwise, the map is kind of fun to play. I couldn't find the final key, so I lost the game. I just kept going in circles.
Well, it's only the first time I've played it so...

Monster fights are fun, most of the time. Lots of krall to gib, some scare...
Those brutes made the game lag a lot for me, too much of a good thing.

That's how I'd describe this test version, too much of a good thing. Too repetitive. Too many areas with spawning monsters, and it takes too long. A
AT LEAST, for one person. I guess it could work with 6-8 persons who play as a team, right?

That could be fun. But those areas which floating platforms.. sigh... =/ I genuinly hate that and wish he hadn't incorporated that into the map. Pity.

That's wrong.

And besides, people end up playing what they want. That's the way things are =)

Peaple sure seem to like thr bt so I ended up adding a bt part to my map aswell
but kept it short and optoinal..
Why do people like bt so much?:rolleyes:

yeap...parts of andromeda are good.
i have it on my server and with 5-6 people it still takes forever.
i wish the underwater part was brighter, and i wish the brutes would spawn faster (we use ATLEAST utj), and you won't die alot on the map, but it will creep along.
i assume that people who like to play with no mods, just placed health and shields, won't like the gods maps.
too many monsters too fast.
i like utj..and when i first saw the gods maps, i was interested, but after the 85th time playing them...i was sick.
BTW...has anyone checked out "mh-inscrutablecastle" yet? interesting.
certainly out of the ordinary, and loads of fun. but i think you need utj.

I love it cause it brings a new set of skills into the game. Its about more then just killing now, its about being able to mannuver! I dont think it's verry nice to make bt a niccesity to finish the map though! It's best if they are there to unlock the insta and the deemer or other special weapons. That way only the leets can get them. Kinda like a reward for having the skill to make it up there.
Way better then trying to altfire the shock rifle to boost yourelf up a wall were a insta is inbedded in the wall. "That is ghay!"

Well, I considered using UTJMH... without those extras it's not that bad. Maybe more powerfull (slightly) would help as well...

Btw, here are some screenshots of the godz-saltified masterpiece.
Look at the amazing detail this map has.
Must've taken 100s of hours, blood_sweat_and_tears.

We played Andromeda Ancient in coop on 3's with normal Unreal weapons. It's fine, you don't need UTJMH. Except we always ended up admin-gunning the titans at the end.

You shouldn't need any mutators like UTJMH to play a monsterhunt game. I mean, as default! As required!

Shouldn't be. It should be an extra.

Just tried mh-dig_x (rrajigar mine from unreal).

It started out "OK", monsters with fluorescent(?) skins and goo/shock projectiles...

Then it just got lame and boring, again =(

It's not a bad thing incorporating Xidia stuff in your map.
Or Upak/stuff from RTNP. This map uses those big spiders (can't recall the name right now) and skaarjtroopers from Xidia.

Pretorians as well. And not a few. DOZENS! Dozens of these though skaarj!
>_< Damn it, these are like turbo skaarjberserkers. Anyone who's played Xidia won't forget them. If you add a few, it suffices. But no, einstein had to add dozens of these scare...

Looks like you need powered up weapons to play this map. Just ain't fun with vanilla weapons.

Oh, and the final fight is so creative.
A teleporter, which leads to a huge,open, empty room (there are guns/ammo in the corners) and a QUEEN boss.

You know, I wish wouldn't have to eh complain like this. I wish I could say "yeah, another nice map with balanced gameplay and fair looks.Doesn't always have to be "teh superior", that's impossible.

Dig is raped, imho.

As for "glory_road_hotel".

Yeah, it ain't bad. Bit weird though. Some areas are very rushed (staircase. Substract big cube and add some staircases and random lights), and the empty garage with behemoths. Which were fun to frag, though.

Lots of nasty tentacles to frag, that's cool with me. "Hate" those bastards ;=)
Krall as well, plenty.
It's clear where you have to go. There's info on screen telling you your objectives. Plenty of guns to frag...

Ok map.

people love the super guns on my server...so..i juice up the maps accordingly. i don't care how they fare on other servers.
if you play it on my server and choose the advanced weapons..you'll cut through those big red skaarj in seconds.
btw try "gate-x"
and pay close attention to the announcement for the end monster....lol
i had you in mind when i mangled that one!

Where's that? I've always missed the beginning and never bothered with the BT. You can't do it in classic mode anyway.
