Options are cool, but inevitabley, balancing them would be the problem. In current format, you spawn with one melee, and one ranged weapon. Designed both to be semi-lethal, but not really equal to any guns you can pick up. It might be cool if they included a melee that you could only pickup, and was noticabley more useful then say, the IH, but I dont' think that really has a place in a game that is 90 ranged weapons.
As well, spawning with 2 just so you could choose is weird. One more bind to make, and/or keypress to get the one you want (because they'd prolly share switch weapon one ala chainsaw/IH in UT). I know I had to change my bind to Getweapon ImpactHammer because of that silly saw thing.
I wouldn't mind, though, choosing a weapon to use, that had an equivalent, like a settings option where you could use IH, or something else to spawn with. I'd often times thought that would be cool for the cSR/LtG thing too... though they aren't really balanced well (to each other), and LtG has some glaring advantages. But the ability to pick which sniper weapon you want would be cool, and in DM maps not really practical since a pickup base is set to a certain weapon, but a locker could have both, and give you only the one you want.
