Meh... I would like *something* close combatty that's nice and visceral, so you can almost feel the blood gushing onto your hands, or better yet a choice of two distinctly different ones, but any more than that would be distracting from the game's intention. Enough to grant fun, but no more, says I.

...I'm completely nuts aren't I?

I cant vote. I havent experienced UC2 or any melee in an FPS.

And I really dont know if UT2007 should have melee, UC2 is UC2, UT2007 is UT2007.

Yes :p

Melee Combat ala UC2 wouldn't work in my opinion...

We all know something like the Impact Hammer is making a return which could be labelled as "sweet melee" although doesn't go as far as "combat".

Perhaps something like the juggernaut's fists with just simple punching actions would be more appropriate? The way UC2 is... with shielding, one hit kills (in the case of the skarjj) and insanely easy "bounce-back" features... It just wouldn't work if they're going for the UT FPS feel.

I've always wanted Melee in UT because no FPS has really pulled it off well. Wanted it from the start and when i did get it it was on a computer i don't have....

Anyway i'd say yes to melee, i'd say no to "like UC2". UC2 does it well but i think if melee is in UT"next" it should be a mutator or so.

That is to say UC2 which is on the xbox only. I'm hardly going to buy a new console to play one game. ;)

No Melée - leave that for UC series, Impact Hammer is all UT needs.

Due to the melée etc in UC2 the whole movement dynamics are vastly different from UT, they are different games, leave 'em that way.

You really should play Aliens Versus Predator, snakeX. :p
Personally I'd love to see something like a gauntlet weapon. Spiky, acid-coated gauntlets... (I'm talking about armoured gloves o' war, by the way. Not Quake 3's spinny thing) I'm all for the Impact Hammer, but it's not quite visceral enough; most of the satisfaction of using it comes from the immense rumbling noise.

UT2k7 should and in fact will have melee combat: Impact Hammer. 'Nuff said.

Well... I probably wouldn't complain if the chainsaw came back. ;)
My thoughts exactly

1. you've never seen a melee weapon in an first person shooter
2. all the UT series (uc2 included) ship with melee weapons
->3. you haven't played a UT game
4. you dislike the way uc2 handles melee weapons
->5. you're judging a game you haven't even seen before :con:

The SG was indeed noisy but i think most of the oldies here will concur that the UT IH was a helluva lot scarier. It was louder, a more disturbing noise and the way it shaked the player about added to the feeling. Usually that kinda fearful noise (kinda like when you heard someone halfway across the map load up their 4th, 5th, 6th rockets then... *beep) ended with a hearty splatter and a good curdling screach.

You just don't get that anymore :/

Please Epic, for the love of god, bring back that audio atmosphere. I hate not being able to hear the weapons load up in preperation for me...

I *am* an oldie, I was guesting on these forums for years before I registered. ^_^
I was indeed actually referring to the Impact Hammer, but similar satisfaction properties apply to the Shield Gun I suppose... the difference being that it's quieter and less shakey, but you tend to get more of an impression that your foe is being properly pulverised. The Hammer basically just transforms the foe into gorey liquid, despite all its frightning charging effects.

:edit: Oh, never mind, I missed the word "concur" in your post when I replied.
