As lotekk and storm said: you use one eye for accurate aiming but 2 in CQB. but in CQB you DO use the sights so in inf there would have to be 2 aimmodes, one with 1 eye open and one with both open, wich, i think will be more work then it's worth. And I think it may look wrong because IRL your eyes's views overlap and when foccusing through iron sights you would see double a little but you brain can filter that. blahblah, you probably don't understand what i mean but some things you just can not simulate. Aiming in CQB is mostly instinctive, you see a target and just automatically put your sights on it. Not being able to feel where your gun is pointing will always make CQB more difficult in a computer simulation than in RL. I think we must not make it unrealistically difficult by adding things that may be realistic but one does automatically in RL.

i just did this aiming w/my pellet gun out side it takes about 20 percent of your view away when your aiming

now i run around in aimed mod constantly with most guns cuz you can see where your going w/the exception of the mp5 w/aimpoint

if this was implemented i wouldnt do this and dont flame me for it if i didnt play w/bugs then i wouldnt compete i would get manhandled cuz everyone else uses the bugs

by the way im pretty sure this has been suggested but it needs to be suggested again

we already have no periferal vission to speak off and you want to make it smaller?
even with my left eye close i can see beond the side of my 17'' monitor the left side with my right eye

im already to close to it ergonomicly speaking
and (i just tested this) i have more then 45 degrea vission to the right looking straight ahead with my right eye closed

another idea deemd unusable/impratical because of interface restrictions

120 degree view is not a good compromise because of the detrimental effect it has on normal play. A better decision would be to provide a widescreen view, much like watching a widescreen DVD on a normal 4:3 television. With that, you could show the peripheral vision without distorting the forward view.

Of course, you would run into a loss of resolution, which would seriously affect long range firing.

I like the idea of slightly changing the FOV while aiming. But only slightly. I'd say maybe 100 fov from the hip but 80 while aiming.

True Combat for Q3 uses something similar and IMO it works quite well. 'aiming' in TC represents focusing your vision on what you are pointing the weapon at and so it magnifies it a little, which when you think about it, IRL when you concentrate your vision on something, you just don't take any notice of what is going on in your peripheral vision, but you can see your target more clearly. I think this is the best way to mimic this with a monitor.

Or just getting a bigger monitor?

you try setting your view on 120 while playing on-line
and a bigger monitor wont get you more VOF you dope

fase it there is no perriferal vission in inf and no way to simmulate it
because of that there is no need to take away perriferal vission on the right side if you aim on the left because you have non in the first place

120 FOV is much closer to real human vision then 90 is. It would be made bearable with a larger monitor.
With distortion limiting "black bars" It would not be a problem.
And I said it would apply to hipped shooting; you "dope"

120 is still on the low side

anyhow giving you 120 vof will distort your view horably making the game look like crap completly nullyfying any attemts to make it look realistic
even if it did only apply to hipshoting (i spend a lot of time with my gun on my hip)

this happens even on bigger monitors (i'v seen UT @ 110 on a 21'')

and dont take the dope part so serriusly damn it

hey im dislectic sometimes i miss a bit

my vof IRL also extends upwards and downwards
besides making the screen smaller would make it impossible for ppl running @ 640 to see anything really and give bigger monitors a even bigger advantige
usualy something to avoid in any game/simulator

and as you sayed ppl already gave it a thumbs down (i wont humilate you by quoting you :p :D)

I wouldnt add this to inf, as the idea of having the FOV change around in-game seems ridiculous.
Games have always been dominated by hardware.
Go try and find a game where a guy with a faster computer, bigger monitor, and a DSL connection has no advantage over a 56ker.
Human FOV is much larger left-to-right than it is up-and-down.

mine is 140 up down and close to 180 left to right(i can see movement @ 180 just not what's moving)

yes games are dominated by hardware
but inf less so from my eperiance
i can win even with a higher ping
and i see ppl doing really well with 350 pings
i know lots of ppl that play on laptops and also do REALLY well

when i win i know its more my skill and luck that made me win and not my kickass hardware
and i like that

as the idea of having the FOV change around in-game seems ridiculous.
not that ridiculous
and you can really focus your view IRL
OFP did it quite well if you ask me

Based on the number of people I've shot from the side or back (and have shot me in the back), I'd say INF has a fair framework for the intelligent 56k'er. At least in comparison to regular UT/Quake.

IMO, dont f</b>uck with the FOV too much until we have monitors that curve around our head. Its not really a "<b>field</b> of view" if its on a flat screen, that's why it looks distorted. After 90 degrees, it starts revealing things that are beside the camera, and when that's translated to a flat screen, it dosent work.

About the two eyes thing, dont special forces spend time practicing bring their weapon up to an aiming position, over and over again, untill you can succesfully bring the weapon up in the exact place you want it immediately, and not spend your time concetrating on aligning the sights, etc... to allow you to be more aware of your surroundings?
