this is so funny and surprising... I think it might make gamers news story of the year (BU remember to do a poll at the end of the year!).
the one big question in my head though is did these guys plan this from the start with deliberate intentions to steal content from various games to help them make their own *hit* game, knowing they would be breaking laws doing so.. hoping to make a good amount of money and then disapear retiring on what they made (laughable plan?). Or are they actually just older, and quite dim where copyright law is concerned and didn't realise that the way they were making their game was in fact illegal and could result in the media storm and possible (should I say probable) lawsuits?
so, deliberate, or dumb?
it's a lot of work... and a big risk...
how many people would attempt such a thing and try and get away with it if they knew what they were doing? creating a game is a very public thing.
Check out the guys responsible for this:
A small article on them.
lol... unbelievable.. this is all legit, the kent messenger is one of the many Kent region newspapers (Kent is a region in the south east corner of england, uk). I come from Kent myself, and the town of Maidstone where they are from is about an hour away from me by train/car.
One of their comments sums up this whole affair and how it's turning out lol
Mr Francis, a former landlord of The Pilot pub, Upper Stone Street, and now a mature student, said: "It is a sort of comedy come horror.
It is the duty of every Englishman to take the piss out of those guys if they live anywhere near them.
Gamer Jihad!
I don't know where to begin

These are Kent men and being one of them, I feel a little ashamed lol.. however, their original intentions remain to be discovered. They asked for it though.. it was ineviteble.
I was thinking they look like Russian mob. Well, not the guy on the left. He looks like one of the X-Files Lone Gunmen geeks. But the other two, yeah.
Speaking as a local, these men look local to the Kent region, especially the medway area, I can imagine what their accents are like, these guys aren't posh, these are common men who go to the pub - but obviously have a hidden geek side to them with the desire to create a smash hit games title
they do look a little english gangster though, especially the 2 on the right, you would think they'd be smiling more than that. Harmless? Conmen? Gangsters? one, a mixture, or all?
By the looks of it, the devs were conmen who are now fleeing instead of duking it out in court, but still, suing them might be harder than it initially appears.
If I was one of them I'd be ****ting myself, especially if I had been that dim not to have known about copyright laws and had put in all that hard work (if you can call it that). Fleeing the country.. hmmm.. depends if they have the balls and expertise to just vanish into thin air. Perhaps Spain, or somewhere in south america lol
Authors of UT200x custom maps should buy this game anyway, for funny memories.
no buying should take place, stolen copyrighted works means the game has no platform to stand on (illegal) so feel free to seek the game for free. Insanity to suggest people should buy this game... people should not profit from media boosted popularity (for the wrong reasons).
I just looked on the WWE site, and checked SBOVIS's profile. He's aware of what's going on. The negative posts about the game started at 7:17am and he was last online at about 10am. He ain't on holiday, that's for certain.
I'm sure they are all aware of what's going on.. you can be anywhere in the world to follow what's going on though, they do not have to be at home.. they could be on "vacation" lol.
I love that the forum caption says: "create your own oblivion, thief3, etc". Obviously it's not their fault at all but I still lol'd.
lol, very surprised seeing that, poking fun at themselves, yeah we all need to make a joke out of it I guess. It doesn't look very good for the games industry though. Gaming is about being innovative and is a message that should be strongly pushed and promoted more so than the piracy these guys have managed to pull off.
