Welcome and I hope to see you on {GD} soon.

The {GD} server runs a lot of mutators, cammos, voice packs, etc. You can get the {GD} Mutator package from my sig. I try and keep it up todate to what is running on the {GD} server. However, if you D/L it, install them and you attempt to join a different server running a older (or newer) version you will not be able to connect. I suggest letting the server send it to you and just installing the *.int files into your UT/System directory (these are needed to be able to use some of the mutators).

If you do get a connection error (version mismatch) then it is pretty easy to find the problem mutator and delete it. Mutators are installed in UT/System directory.

Also, if there is a readme.txt that comes with the mutator, then it is also in my mutie pack. I suggest that you read over them if you chose to install them.

Lastly, {GD} Clan offers a Public TeamSpeak Server and it is very useful (and fun) while playing Inf. The IP is in my sig.

Perhaps it is 1 out of 10 times its saved, but that to me means a 10% performance increase. Well worth the 12 bulk. I pack light, 4 or 5 mags, and a few hand nades, no sidearm. I always wear level IIIa. If I run out of ammo, which is rarely since I put most down with a single burst to the upper torso area, I collect guns from the fallen. Its good to get some experience in all arms to be ready for these instances. I never limit myself to one single specialization.

Thanks Odie. I haven't tried any servers yet as I'm spending a lot of time shooting the wall with all the different guns gettin' a feel for their recoil and sighting and such. That and playing a lot of Red Orchestra for UT2k4 which I'm enjoying immensly. (Nice realism in that but not like Inf and not a lot of weapon choice)

But I'll definitely check out the server when I'm ready :)

Just for the case ;)
Many new players complain about the 'insane' recoil and do not notice that you can 'control' or work against the recoil with your mouse effectively. This of course depends on the weapon you are holding in hands, so you need to train it a little bit.
In the end you will be able to fire short bursts or some single rounds followed in a fast row very accurately.

And to the armour. It can save your life sometimes but it will not render every projectile that was 'blocked' useless. Armour reduces the damage done by a single projectile depending on its caliber and weapon that fired it. However the armour itself gets damaged too of course and can get useless after some hits fully. But if rifle rounds hit ya then you will die before the armour is wrecked fully due to the amount of damage these projectiles will still do to your body. Some projectiles that were already mentioned can almost be blocked fully but will damage the vest and render it useless if hit often enough.
But... armour is not like in other games were it can be used to block everything from ya. Only your torso and head (if using a helmet) is protected. Your legs and your face are always unprotected. So, many players aim for the legs with their firing bursts or for the upper torso moving the last round into your head almost automatically with some training.
A shotty on a distance has a nice spread that can cover the full torso or even a bit more if the distance is far enough. So normally many pellets will hit your unprotected legs then too. But a shotty on close range can be stopped with the LIIIa front plate if you were lucky enough to get hit directly into your upper torso. Shotty in the back or your side... pretty hard to survive ;)

Have fun playing with the bots... and try out online soon!

Welcome. I think the biggest (and best) part of INF is that everyone can find their own groove. I personally never wear body armor, and prefer carrying a scope. Others play with SMG's and body armor; while others play with rifles, grenade launchers, and a flak vest. Its all about preference really.

But, as someone said before, be prepared to have your ass handed to you should you venture online :). If you run into me or my mates we'll gladly show you what INF's about (with two to the chest and one to the head :D).

hahaha
:)

I've found I actually shoot really well with the mp5. It's usually been one of my favorite guns in any "real weapons" mods. :)

I have one question though... in your options it has settings for lean left/right and also lean left/right "with reset"

WHat does the "with reset" mean?

Welcome back to the community. As you can see, this community might be small, but there are a lot of friendly helpful faces.

If you want to get your feet wet in TDM or DTAS, I will probably see you on the SG Servers. There are a lot of really good people that play over there and they will treat you nice (not as many morons as Cleeus might suggest ;)).

Glad to have you back. If you have any problems or questions, please let us know.

P90 is for folks that need a crosshair and no recoil ;)
More a ladies weapon than the MP5, tho (even with the MP5 being pretty recoil-less too).

Perfect sights but more or less heavy recoil = AKMSU.
Spray'n'pray = AKMSU+Drum or the Minimi for some.
Suppressive fire = Minimi.
M16/M203 for the case you need accuracy and 40mms without the need to carry the HK69 as a sidearm.
FA MAS/Sup (w/ or w/o ACOG) = Silent Sniping.
aso aso...
Every weapon has its pros and cons and everyone has his own favorites for certain reasons and for certain situations.

I always have the the Level II Vest and Helmet, but I feel it is kinda useless, cuz ppl use pistols rare and the MP5 is dangerous enough in fullauto, or burst, and then the P90. But I still use the armor.
IIIa makes me too lame, I´m one of the fast mover, I better die, as crawling around with a heavy vest, lol.

- I use mostly the M16A2 on singleshot. I train the singleshot, to get better accurassy, so I could carry only few magazines.
- For CQB, I always use the AKMSU on single, normal 30 round magazine. The AKMSU is great if you move in close buildings, so if you walk aimed and turn, you notice, that the AKMSU don´t crash on the walls and stuff that often, only if you are very close.
- I love the MP5, but since it is not a hostage rescue and anti terrorism game, the MP5 is too uneffective in comparison to other weapons.
- I hate the P90, since I dislike fullauto.

- I mostly have a pistol, the 5,7 (in the bonus pack that will be the Colt 1911). But I carry only one, or two magazines. That´s for real bad situations, where I can´t go for cover, I shoot at the enemie, even if he´s not dying, he will be hurt and run slower, so I have time to get cover and reload the rifle, without to see the guy following me in full speed and shooting me if I´m reloading.
So a pistol with 2 mags is my standart, but rarely used, but still sometimes helpfull.

- Grenades are always there. min 2, max 5.

- If sniper than the PSG1, never use the acog rifles.
The Robar is very fun to use, the zoom, the manual reload, I wish they will be a similar weapon in INF, with smaller caliber (lighter).

I played INF yet, just a rifle and 6 nades (and a cap). And I was damn fast, could run from cover to cover fast.
I think if you have maps like Aztec, it is the best to have no armor, so you can move fast.
But they were some situations, were I was dry and noticed I had no sidearm and I couldn´t run away, that was deadly.
All in all to paly without the armor is good for training sake, so you care more of what you are doing and shoot more accurate.
