Reading this thread gave me a UT epiphany.

The games had too many of the core rules changed between sequels?

Weapons remained mostly unchanged, but the players, movement and tactics changed far too much between the games. Probably has a great deal to with the community splintering, and why the series is so .. dead?

I know most of us already realized this, but can anyone else think of a franchise where this was so strongly represented?

Lots of game series have done the reinvention thing, but I can't actually think of a single time when that worked out well. And, no, I'm not talking about spiritual successors or half a decade later remakes.

Earlier in this thread I mentioned that each UT is very much it's own game.

There is a fine line between changing the game to much and just making a carbon copy of the previous. With the exception of sports games, you are right Brizz, they don't work out well often. I know I liked Doom and Doom 2, COD 1 and 2, UT99 and 2k4 (but they are very different games). I never played the C&C games, or X-Com, but I hear they had a good series.

Well, there were a bunch of games that were shown at E3 last week that may excite the PC gaming community a little bit (let's hope), and I know that I'm looking forward to everything for the PC that have been unveiled and/or about to be released within the next year. Doom 4, Rage, Crysis 2, Deus Ex 3, Bulletstorm, Red Faction Armageddon, etc...all looks good.

I deleted my post after thinking about it more and realizing that you reading comprehension skills are to low to talk to you.

Personally, I also realized it's difficult to take you seriously with your avatar and a signature like "Swarthy_Foreskin Ph34r5 me." so the feeling is mutual.

UT3 never had a demo.

 I know the UT3 demo was terrible, but the fact that you said this made me cringe.

Hell with it, I'm sick of arguing.

I like my wifes tits, so they make a good avatar and I have gotten nothing but compliments. As for my sig, heh, the Swarthy is something from this forum that predates my current join date, lets just call it a past issue that reminds me of funner times in UT.

UT3 had a beta demo. It was not even good enough to be a demo, which was great when it was released, but is terrible now. That beta gave many communities hope for a great UT release, even the ever bitter ProU loved it and went to Epic forums in support.

Hell with it, I'm sick of arguing.

Good for you.

The UT3 demo didn't gave everyone hope but made everyone extremely worried.

It gave hope until Epic announced the game went gold, then people worried. I very much remember ProU being excited and going to Epic forums in force to show support, then it was announced it went gold and the thread QUICKLY turned to worry.

Wonder if that'll happen when somebody named George Broussard will announce whenever DNF (Duke Nukem Forever) goes gold? :D

How is Anuban nowadays? He was a pretty positive contributor to new maps and models a while back. Did the whiners chase him off? They are pretty relentless.

Don't know don't care, hated the guy. Last I do remember though was him getting banned from Epic forums and here I believe.

The quote in my sig is actually from an argument the AS community had with him.

"killerskaarj is bad at video games"

Yeah, I guess you're right. I'm terrible against anything higher than Adept in UT3.

Too bad, you should have gone based on the Steam preview of UT3 Black.

Would not have mattered, by the time it was out, I need something in UT3 other than a name to get into it. With no Assault for me to get in to, WAR needed to live up to the hype that "Conquest" got. But Conquest never happened and like I said in 2005, it was not even close in theory either.

Last time I've seen Anuban he was on the GameFaQs's UT3 X360 boards starting up a drama because Epic didn't release the Titan pack for the X360 D:

Then you got me doing double-duty. I'm helping out both the Unreal *and* Quake communities stay alive. There's too many people playing Counter-Strike and not enough with either the UT franchise or Quake 3 Arena base. I'd certainly consider changing that for the better.
