Invalid CD key problem on UT2004 installation

I tried to install this awesome game again but I have a problem... The setup says "The CD key is invalid, please check..." every time I try to input it so I can't install it. I'm nearly sure I've typed it correctly and I have also tried many variations (i.e. 2 -> Z, O -> 0, 8 -> B). I have the original, genuine CD's, not pirated ones or anything, and they are in good condition (I tested them with IsoBuster). The OS of my computer is Windows XP (home edition, SP3).

So...

1. Is it illegal to get a hacked ("warez") key or use a keygen?

2. Does anyone know if there are any other (better) solutions than using a hacked key?

3. Is it possible to play online with a hacked key?

4. Is it possible to play in LAN with a hacked key?

I found many topics about invalid keys but they all concerned online gaming, not installation problems...

Some boxes of UT2k4 were shipped with invalid cd keys, I've seen another one. With an illegal key you can play on LAN, SP but probably not online (or maybe just on some servers).

It's impossible to play online with an unofficial key anyway from what I've heard. SP and LAN will work though like Kaleena said.

That's odd. There is a common problem when after the install it starts to complain, but during it? That means that the key is completely off, and was never valid in the first place...

Try to contact Epic Games, if they still support UT2kx.

For real? Is this from official sources?--I'd guess people assumed they were invalid because they misinterpreted the symbols--I remember really struggling to get the key right--enough to warrant storing it in a text file for future reference.

Try to contact Epic Games, my friend had no luck doing it but it's always worth a shot.

My friend now uses my own cd key (and yes we can play together online with a similar cd key). We tried everything but could never get the key right... So I suppose it's a bad print or something.

Still no answer from Epic games... I thought their customer service could really help people when I found their support email address but no... Same **** as nearly all customer services I've seen so far... It seems that I can only play good ol' UT99 GOTY...
