The following article appeared in a dutch gaming magazine, in the section regarding mod's.
I've translated it to english, and it has been slightly shortened because i am very lazy. I've tried to convey the tone of the article, which seemed to be an air of "oh damn, another f*cking CS wannabe requiring me to stay at the office one more hour to fill up my section of the magazine"
(title: Infiltration, Half-Life mod)
Im almost sorry, but again I'm forced to review a sort of CS clone in this months modspot. Offcourse there is almost no escaping this, seeing as how 80% percent of all mods are more or less a CS clone. Again we are faced with two teams, who will fight each other in several different settings. Many kilo's of lead will be flying through the air and TK'ers will be making there appearance on the servers. It looks like Inf is just another really badly made modification.
Fortunately for Inf, there are some pro's.
Iron sight: now a very familiar feature it is also present in Inf.
Crouching and going prone are both possibilities and should bring a bit of variation to the game, or so the dev's hope.
Major weakness of the mod are the graphics. Unlike other comparable Half Life (???) mods the graphics are below standard. This is good for speed, but by now most gamers will have either a cable or ADSL connection anyway, so speed is not much of an issue anymore.
(end of article)
First things first, Inf a Half Life mod? I really must have missed something here, i demand to know when this was released. Obviously this secret half life mod is the reason you (the dev's) have kept us waiting so long for v2.9. And when will you be releasing the HL2 version of this mod, I demand release dates.
Secondly, I realise that Inf just like CS concerns two teams with modern day guns battling it out in a wide variety of settings. In this respect Inf is obviously a CS clone. Shame on you dev team. While we are at it, i would also like to flame the person(s) who invented the various ball games (eg soccer, football, rugby) played around the world. You should be severly punished for your lack of imagination which has now trapped millions world wide, obviously all ballgames are clones.
The magazine who published this article, PC Zone benelux, is a large, and respected gaming magazine. More than once editors comment on the apparent habit of game journalists to just copy stuff straight out of the press kit, and subsequently writing a story which suggests the journalist has previewed the game personally and hands on. This Inf article should prompt them to take a look at their own journalists. The way it is written suggests to me the writer has not only never played the game (or sucked big time at it) but has barely taken the effort to read the website properly.
I plan to write a letter to pc zone, so that at least the most blatant error (inf a HL mod) may be corrected. And that they should try and take a look at the Inf gameplay, and find out for themselves that it is a bit different from CS gameplay. To say the least.
Lastly i have a question.
The article also mentions the incorporation of aiming via iron sights. Now I think i first came into contact with inf when it was at version 1.75 (if that is possible at least, im not very good with numbers/dates/names etc etc., it was for the original Unreal, when Inf still had that rather nice AT4 )
The way the article talks about the incorporation of iron sights seems to suggest that Inf just jumped aboard the iron sight train because everybody else seems to be doing it. My question is: Was infiltration the first game to feature fully working iron sights?

btw i am not aware of any affiliation between pczone benelux and the english gaming magazine PCzone. So if you are inclined to flame PC zone, flaming pczone.co.uk will have you burning down the wrong house.
this message has now been edited at least five times to correct any and all grammar errors, incorrect statements, obvious lies, rush tactics, and allegations of the possesion of WMD's by certain countries.
<edit> Make that six. Fixed "crouchning" grammar bug, and added one "it" for balance purposes
